Dear friends!
In my recent trip of Karachi, Luckily I have got some truly rare songs of Madam that I was looking for since ages. There is a very old music store ‘Capri Music’ in Lee Market area. They have a large collection of Gramophone records. I was really surprised to see their collection of old music. I gave him a list of about 150 (Urdu) songs of Noor Jehan, mostly from 60s, and I was really surprised when they told me they have 90% of them.
But in the very next moment, I was very shocked when they told me the rate of the songs. They were charging Rs. 50 for each song, This price was simply out of my budget. Khair… I started bargaining, finally they agreed on Rs. 30 each song. The price was still too much but I didn’t want to leave this treasure.
Finally, they have delivered me 8 audio-tapes of the songs, I have just digitized a couple of them. It is every time a pleasure to share my collection with all of you. I will share these gems in this thread, hope you will post your feedback.

Starting with a truly rare song. It is commonly believe that ‘Kesa naseeb laai thi gulshan-e-roogaar mein’ is the only song sung by Madam in the movie “Jaan-e-bahaar’ (1958). I have found another song of Madam from the same movie.
It is not less than a treasure to find a ‘new’ song from 50s.

Such a great song Inaam bhai and what a rare find, I see you had more success than I did. Noor Jehan's voice is to die for, such sweetness. I love it, have been hearing it on repeat ! Can't wait to hear the rest of the collection !!

Do the Capri Music people have a list of all their songs or is it simply a case of you have to go there and look for the songs yourself?

They have some registers (Catalogues?), I have got the photostate copies of 3 registeres, unfortunatly most of the movies, listed in these register are post 19960. But I believe they have a very huge and rare collection with them.

Inaam, awesome song. Thanks a lot, you made my day. BTW, do those guys have Gulnar song 'sakhiri nahin aaye.' Another 1960s film was Chiragh Jalta Raha, I have its songs in bad quality but nonetheless true gems, 'main dil se poochhti hoon', 'patta patta butaa butaa' & 'phir aise khayalat'- do they have these songs in good quality?

Pulkit, I got the Gulnar and Chragh Jalta Raha songs too, quality is almost same. I asked them for a clear copy of ‘Sakhi ri nahin aaey’ they said this is the only version we have. lagta hai poore Pakistan mein aik hi record hai iss gaane ka aur wo bhi kaafi ghiss chuka hai.

I remember once Pulkit posted a message here on NJ forum for Noor Jehan songs composed by Feroze Nizami, so I dedicate this song to my dear friend Pulkit. .Most of us have heard the lovely songs that Madam sang for Feroze Nizami in Jugnu(1947), Chanve(1951) and Dupatta(1952).
Noor Jehan also sang for Feroze Nizami in two films from 1960s- 'Manzil' and 'Mongol', Luckily I have got a song from ‘Mangol’ (1961). Needless to say that Madam and Feroze Nizami created magic in this song!

Listening to the Mangol song. I notice a boom in Ur files. Try keeping recording volume low and later increasing it with Cool Edit. Are U using a walkman or system? I find walkman gives better results.

This one too is a beauty. Nice lilting one. Really like it a lot.
Madam's voice has changed so much in 3 years na when U listen to the 2 songs in succession.

Yaar, I do not know how to clean the songs tum jo sw bataya tha wo mila nahin... As these songs are from old records, there is a lot of noice in it, phir ye hai ke I digitized them by my old Panasonic sterio system. I dont have any walkman.

Converting songs from Cassettes and then uploading them and all that stuff takes a long long time. I dont have time for all that stuff, it gives me headache. It is better to pay and become an Angel.

Inaam, though I can clean the songs but ideally it should be done in the original wave file for best quality. Luckily, I have traced out my audio softwares, if you want I'll mail you a copy. They are really good, erased all crackles out of 'main koyal wangar.' I Guess, Jamal also wanted a copy?

Being the mod of the Asha forum I do make it a point to log in at least once a day and see if there is anythign to be done. Also the fact that Asha is still in the news and creating music keeps discussions alive. Plus I do have a lot to contribute when people make requests. Yahan to I do not even have a list to make requests. Jab Inaam aur Jamal ul karte hain to I join the party. U guys are horrid meanos and I am not going to talk to U.




Actually the recording medium makes a huge difference. I used to record using my khatara 5 in one several yrs back and now I am re-reording those using my walkman. If the tape recorder contributes to the hiss and noise then it makes for a lot of work.

I will try and clean the files and ul. As Pulkit said it is best when we clean the original files.
Tum bas yeh points note kar lo. Keep rec vol on Ur pc low. Taki booming sound na aaye.
Also see that Ur deck is cleaned and is not adding to noise or drag etc.


BTW I wanted to tell U. We can share to buy this khazana from the shop, right? I am scheduled to get some money soon and would like to keep apart some for songs. U can buy the songs for me and then courier/post them (they may hike the rate or else for foreigners ) I will send U the DD for the amount. We have been at a standstill for so long--ab khazana haath lag gaya hai to use jaane nahin dena chahiye.

Priya - I was also going to suggest the sharing idea. I think it is only fair, we are all sharing in the joy of getting these rare songs so it is fair that we share the cost.

Inaam bhai - how easy it is to make a copy of the tapes? We could split the work between us. I could convert/clean/upload some tracks. What do you think?

The problem would be for Inaam to send us the tapes na. Courier/postal charges + delay. I too am only happy to help in converting and cleaning but I am not sure if Inaam will find all the extra work of sending us copies easy.
But for the rest of the treasure that is still at the shop, we could share the cost and buy it all up soon.

I have got all the ‘known’ songs of Noor Jehan from that shop… matlab jo meri list mein thay wo almost sab mil gaye… Obviously there are still so many songs of Madam to find lekin unka kese pata chaley? The catalogues I have got from the shop contain post 60s movies, and most of them are Punjabi movies. .

Aur haan… jo kuchh bhi mere paas hai wo sab tumhaara hai, I will happily upload all my collection for you. Haan if you are looking for the songs of some other singers, phir aur baat hai.

Inaam could U find that mohabbat mein...aisa bhi hota hai song? Uske clear copy ke liye taras rahi hoon main.

Priya! As I already have this song (though a bad copy) so it was not in my list Mein bhool gaya ke iski clear copy leni hai... kahir.. not to worry, in my next visit, hopefully I will get it.

Abhi tak Pulkit ka software nahin mila

I guess one of the courier guys has turned out to be Noor Jehan fan and that's why he took away the whole parcel alongwith the software . I shouldn't have designed the CD cover and written contents on it . Don't worry have sent you another one today, lets hope for the best. At the moment I can't mail you the software as due to some problems have come back to dial up connection once again for a while and the software file is quite big.

I am starting again the sharing of my treasure with you all, I stopped the uploading because I wanted to clean the songs, As I said in one of my previous post, Pulkit has sent me a wonderful software, but unfortunately I do not know how to use it properly. Bohat Intezar kiya lekin Pulkit ne step by step guidence nahin bheji.. Kahir I have tried muself and I think result is not very bad. Please let me know how can I improve it more.

Kahne ki jaroorat nahi hai ki ek ye khoobsurat song hai. Audio Editing ka kaam bhi aapne bakhoobi kiya hai lekin iske shuru aur aakhir ke kuchh second ko simply cut karne ki jaroort thi. Main is kaam ka ustaad nahin hoo, aur ho sakta hai maine is song ko aur kharab kar diya ho lekin thodi si chhechhad karke ise upload kar raha hoon :
