swarapriya ji,

Request for "Jali Note
" "Mahal" "Amar Deep" "Barish"

Thanks in advance.

Maybe Hemdutt means Mahal (1949) in which case he should have posted on the Three Reigning Queens Thread.

Dev also was in a movie named "Mahal" released in 1969. Cheers. -S

(Dev) Jaali Note (1960)

This is a real beauty from OP. Last time when they got together for "C.I.D." in 1956, the combination of Dev & OP was a smash. This time OP still gave smashing music. But in spite of beautiful Madhubala and Shakti Samanta in the director's chair, the movie wasn't a hit. It managed only a modest business.

Here are the songs from this beauty. It appears like I may be missing a song shown in red italics shown in the table below. If indeed this is the case, please kindly share this song with rest of us if you can. Thank you.

Now here are the foot tappers. By the way the songs "Chaand Zard" and "Raat Sard" are two different songs even though at casual hearing they sound to be the same. Sometimes they are combined and presented as an extended version...

(Dev) Baarish (1957)

This is yet another beautiful album from the combination of the music director C. Ramchandra and the lyricist Rajinder Krishan. Most of the songs from this film became very popular when the film was released. Only problem the movie encountered was the star pair of this film was also in another movie that was nearly released about the same time. That movie was "Paying Guest". It was an enormous hit and this took away much of the "thunder" from "Baarish".

I am uploading the songs from this film in two back-to-back posts. The first post contains all the songs from the film, with all except one from an original soundtrack album. The second post contains several music clips. These were ripped from a DVD. Their quality is from fair to average. Because of this I am uploading these at a lower bit rate.

Here are the songs in the first post...

(Dev) Amar Deep (1958)

Whenever C. Ramchandra and Rajinder Krishan got together they gave same great songs. Their collaboration resulted in nearly 25 movies. That says something about their combination; reliable and consistent. Remember all those unforgettable songs from "Albela (1951)" and mesmerizing songs of "Anarkali (1953)". This album has some very fine songs too. It has that famous duet "Dekh Humen Aawaaz Na Dena" and several lovely solos by Asha and Lata.

This movie was based on a Tamil hit that starred the great Tamil thespian Shivaji Ganeshan. Shivaji produced the Hindi version. The story revolved around an amnesiac played by Dev who is cast opposite three Southern Belles, Vyjayanti Mala, Padmini, and Ragini who in turn fall in love with him. The movie didn't make too many waves, but thanks to its beautiful music it was a modest hit.

All songs from the film were huge hits. The duet by Asha and Rafi Saab, "Dekh Humein Aawaaz Na Dena", was an extremely popular song. So were some of the solos by Asha, especially "Lagi Apni Nazariya" and "Jaalilo Dim Taana." But my favorites from this movie are both of the solos by Lata. They are sweet and melodious and were beautifully sung by Lata. I am uploading all songs from the original soundtrack album in two back-to-back two posts.

Here is the first set of songs...

(Dev) Mahal (1969)

The hit pair of "Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1960)" is back together paired once again in this musical. This album has several nice songs, like the duet of Asha and Kishoreda, "Yeh Duniyawaale" and other songs. I am uploading below these songs from an original soundtrack album...

(Kishore) Chacha Zindabad (1959)

I was looking to see how far back the association between Madan Mhoan ji and Kishoreda goes. It started with Madan Mohanji's second film as a composer, "Ada", released in 1951. They worked last in Chetan Anand's movie "Sahib Bahadur" released in 1975, a remake of Dev's "Afsar (1950)" which was also directed by Chetan Anand. Altogether they worked in 17 films producing several outstandingly beautiful songs. Some of the standout solos include "Dil Dil Se Mila Kar Dekho" in "Memsahib (1956)", "Aye Haseeno Naazneeno" from this film, "Zaroorat Hai Zaroorat Hai" from "Man-Mauji (1962)", "Simti Si Sharmaai Si" from "Parwana (1971)", and "Raahi Tha Main Aawaara" from "Sahib Bahadur (1975)". Interestingly, for many of these films Rajinder Krishan was the lyricist, who was Mohanji's favorite.

There are several beautiful tracks in this album with the lyrics penned by Rajinder Krishan. Apart from Kishoreda's song mentioned earlier ("Aye Haseeno") I have two more favorites in this album. One of them is Lata's mellifluous "Bairan Neend Na Aaye" and the other is the outstanding duet by Lata and Mannada, "Preetam Daras Dikhaao". This indeed is one the great albums of Mohan Saab.

I am uploading songs of this popular musical from an original soundtrack album in back-to-back two posts. Here is a description of these songs and the songs themselves...

Concluding Songs from "Chacha Zindabad (1959)"...

Here are the rest of the songs from this beautiful album. I am including here a slightly longer version of "Bairan Need Na Aaye". This one has a bit longer music in the beginning of the song. Apart from that difference, both regular and longer versions are the same.

Here are these beautiful songs...
