(Sadhana) Ek Musafir Ek Hasina (1962)

OP quotes in the write up for "Legends" albums of Rafiji that if there was no Rafi then there would have been no OP either. A great tribute from a great maestro.

Every Rafisaab song of this film is famous to date not because they were hits but simply because they are beautiful - unmatched. OP Nayar was a man of conscience and yes he did make this comment, I think there are many more MD's, actors, producers and music companies that should come out and owe their success to the voice of Rafisaab.
Rafisaab also had tremendous respect for OP, even though they had a brief understanding in late 60's, Rafisaab never once uttered any thing against him, well the noble man has never said bad for anyone. They were only not the finest artistes in their category but also good human being.

(Saira) Aayee Milan Ki Bela (1964)

Here is an utter delight from one of Sharkar-Jaikishan's early works. After these many years, these songs haven't lost their charm. Each song is a music lover's heaven. My personal favorite is that beautifully done "Tum Ko Hamaari Umar Lag Jaaye". Excellent lyrics (Hasrat), beautiful composition, and another beautiful rendering by Lata.

In this movie Rajendra Kumar was the hero and Dharmendra had a secondary role. Dharmendra still was an up and coming actor. But his presence on the sceen in this movie was a dynamite. Even though his role was negative, every scene he appeared with Rajendra, he was simply dominating. You can see that he will be one of those worth watching for in the coming years.

I am uploading all regular CD songs in my first post. The second post consists of several extended versions of these songs. They all are by the courtesy of the Forum members.

Here is the first set of songs ...

(Sharmila) Sawan Ki Ghata (1966)

Here is another unforgettably delightful offering by OP. His music in 60's sparkled like precious gems. No wonder even today they are so beautiful to listen to. Each song was a huge hit when the movie was released. Each song hasn't lost a bit of lustre even today.

Let's hear what kind of rains these "Sawan Ki Ghata" bring ...

Dear SP,

Thanks for a splendid album.
I saw the film during my school days & later on after about 20 years.
The songs continue ringing in the head (dimag mein goonjthe rahthe hain) long after the player has been switched off.
They linger on like a trail of a classy perfume.
Zulfon se... & Hoton pe hasi are ageless classics.

I think you kept your write-up very brief & let the songs and the music do the talking.
Thanks SP for making my day.

Best regards,
Suresh

That is beautifully said, Suresh.

The brevity is on purpose. Of course as you've observed, sometimes less speaks more. Also, in my OP thread, last year, I have covered these albums before in some detail. I just didn't want to repeat myself.

I love this movie for its songs. My only complaint is about its hero Manoj Kumar which I think was a huge miscast. Manoj may be good as Bharat, but in this role, more appropriately made for someone like Shammi, he looked very ill at ease. Now take a look at Sharmila. She had only three or four Hindi movies before this. Of course she has done few Bengali movies also. But she wasn't as experienced as was Manoj. Yet, I thought she was just absolutely charming and winningly winsome in happily singing and effortlessly walking through her role.

Cheers,
Swarapriya

Dear SP,
Absolutely.
The film was made all the more watchable due to the presence of Sharmila. She was absolutely charming.
I do agree that Manoj Kumar was a huge mis-cast.

Biswajeet would have also fitted the bill admirably, as an alternate to Shammi Kapoor.

Best regards,
Suresh

(Sadhana) Ek Musafir Ek Hasina (1962)

Here is one of my favorite OP albums. I never get tired of listening to these songs. With so much youthful exuberance these songs have been put together heart flutters with joy and makes you feel so much younger. Every song sparkles like a just opened vintage champagne bottle.

Both Asha and Rafi always gave their best to OP. In later years after her split with OP, Asha never acknowledged about what OP has done for her career saying that when you have talent it has to surface up sooner or later. Probably true. But thanks to OP, it gave her a momentum, and a name to reckon with, for many many generations to come. Asha would probably have been struggling for many more years without this kind of help. And what one can say about Rafi Saab. OP quotes in the write up for "Legends" albums of Rafiji that if there was no Rafi then there would have been no OP either. A great tribute from a great maestro.

SP Ji,

Each & every word you have said in this write up... is mine too wub.gif

My Dear USR,

When you so eloquently put in words, you just became endearing to me. So, please drop addressing me "ji" from henceforth. And, thank you very much for those nice and kind words.

(Vyjayanti) Miss Mala (1954)

This was the fourth Hindi movie of Vyjayanti Mala. In two of the first three Hindi movies, her costar was Kishore. She also is paired here with Kishore. Chitragupt ji provides some fine music. Young Geeta ji had three duets in this movie. Enchantingly romantic, the only way she can sing. I am uploading all of them here. All in all it is an excellent album. These songs came from various sources including several from the contributions of the Forum members. My many thanks to them.

Details of the songs are given below. Here they are ...
