(Waheeda) Aadmi (1968)
Here is another movie based on a Tamil hit. Tamil actor Veerappa who produced this movie went nearly broke trying to make this movie. After it became a huge hit in Tamil, it was remade in Telugu as “Gudi Gantalu” in 1964 and was a modest success. This should have given a clue to Veerappa. Nevertheless, he decided to make this in Hindi and signed Dilipji to play the main lead. Dilipji was one of those actors who demanded a huge salary to act. Convinced that this movie will work in Hindi, Veerappa decided to sign Dilipji by agreeing to all of his demands. After several years in production, mainly because of the financial difficulties of the producer, it was finally released in 1968 and proved to be a dud at the box office and was a financial disaster for its producer. The storyline of this movie is simply abominable. Yet, it seems like we made these type of movies over and over again during this period, and most of them seem like made money for producers for them to repeatedly go back to the same subject. The subject matter is simply put very crappy and shows very little concern for human values and very little respect for women. The final product of “Aadmi” was tasteless. Utter sham. No redeeming social value to point out. Dilip Saab plays a man who is paralyzed halfway through the movie and suffers from baseless suspicions about the relationship between his wife and a friend. The problem here is that it is not the physical handicap of Dilip’s character we should be sorry about. It is his mental handicap. I saw this movie for Dilipji and Naushadji. Also, I just love what Waheeda Rehman can do in her roles. I guess they all are good reasons when these type of movies are made, people like myself go to watch them. In the end, however, none of these individuals didn’t have much to contribute, it seemed like. Ever so dependable Dilip Saab was simply insipid in his character. Each time he encountered some kind of a problem or dilemma, Dilip Saab, one of our most brilliant actors he is, covered his face in fingers to express his anguish. In this movie, he may have done this too many times. This must be one of his indifferent and weak performances. Similarly, Waheeda was also disappointing as she furrows her brows often times through out the proceedings. Manoj, who had a significant role in this movie, in real life idolized Dilip Kumar while he was growing up. He even changed his name to Manoj after Dilip’s character in “Shabnam” made in 1949. It was one of his lifelong ambitions to work with Dilip Saab in a film This film offered him that opportunity. In a supporting role, Manoj’s performance was passable. Naushadji’s music was a tad better compared to his last outing with "Ram Aur Shyam". But still very uninspired and in the end like the movie itself utterly forgettable. I will upload songs from the Telugu film “Gudi Gantalu” in this thread immediately following uploading of the Hindi songs. Now for details of the songs from an original soundtrack album and the songs themselves ... Attached image(s) ![]() |

SP, aren't you being grossly unfair to Naushadji & Rafi saab? 'Aaj Purani Raahon Mein' must rank somewhere in the top 2% of Rafi saab's songs. You consider it 'utterly forgettable'? Madhu |

Madhu May be I am here Madhu. This movie was such a forgettable experience because I love all its principals, Dilip Saab, Waheeda, and Naushadji. With all their talents put together when they couldn't deliver I probably got frustrated. But in no way it diminished my respect for either one of these individuals. In my other writings I clearly showed my appreciation of these individuals at no end. This is just lamentation of a true lover of these talented people. Cheers, S |

(Mala) Bombay Ka Chor (1962)
Here is another hit album from Ravi. There are several hit songs in this album but one of them is a standout. Kishoreda's awsome solo "Hasrat Hi Rahi" is a song for the ages. Great singing to accompany some heart rendering lyrics of Rajinder Krishanji to some lovely music by Ravi makes this not only an instant winner but one that will be remembered by every music lover for ages to come.
