(Sadhana) Amaanat (1977)

Here is another winner from the combination of Ravi & Sahir Saab. Together they gave us so many lovely film albums that one never gets tired of listening to them over and over again. This album is one such candidate to prove my point. It has so many great songs. Asha's solo. Very beautifully sung by Asha. Then Rafi Saab's four heart warming solos. Even though all of them are good, two are worth mentioning, "Dooe Reh Kar" and "Teri Jawaani".

Let's us join in the fun by enjoying these songs ...

Rafi sahab dominates this album with his majestic voice, the title song though is a rare beauty, no one can sing like this.

PLAYBACK SINGING STARTS AND ENDS WITH RAFISAAB. IN TERMS OF QUALITY, CONSISTENCY & VERSATILITY, RAFISAAB IS INFINITE LIGHT YEARS AHEAD OF ALL SINGERS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER HIM.

SS, like I mentioned, all solos by Rafi Saab are excellent. Sometimes, singling out one becomes such a difficult task. Cheers. -S

(Zeenat) Golmaal (1979)

Amol Palekar was a painter by training before he turned to acting. He belonged to Marathi theater where he acted in few plays. Late he became a film actor and also became a notable director. As a director he made some significant movies in both Marathi and Hindi (for example, “Ankhaee (1985)”).

It was while doing an acting stint in a Marathi play, director Basu Chatterjee noticed Amol and offered him to work in his next movie “Rajnigandha (1974)”. The character he played in that movie of a middle class educated person became a template for rest of the movies of his acting career. He seldom deviated from portraying this type of character. This is what producers wanted because most of his movies were made on a small budget and turned in tidy profits for the producers. There was an occasional refreshing deviation from this. For example, in Shyam Benegal’s multiple award winning “Bhoomika (1977)”, he played a person who appears to be a nice guy but has some wicked motives.

Majority of Amol’s movies were either directed by Basu or by Hrishida. This movie, “Golmaal” was directed by Hirshida and it is worth a watch for the comedy between Amol and Utpal Dutt. Especially Dutt was simply superb in several scenes in the film.

Zeenat appeared as a guest in the film.

There are only four songs in this movie. Two of my favorites from this album are the solo by Kishoreda, “Aanewaala Pal” and Lata’s solo, “Ek Baat Kahoon”. Here are the songs from this original sound track album …

(Saira) Aao Pyar Karen (1964)

This is one great album from the incomparable Usha Khanna. This album has lots and lots of songs. And each one is just an utter delight. If you like to hear some beautiful songs of Rafi Saab, you don't need to go too far. This album has five solos of Rafi Saab and most of these are unforgettable.

My favorites of this album are Rafi Saab's two solos, "Jahaan Tu Hai" and "Yeh Jhuki Jhuki". Incidentally, the latter song was filmed on Mac Mohan ("Samba" of "Sholay (1975)" fame). He puts on quite a show as a dancer! His screen credit was given under the name Brij Mohan.

Because of the number of songs, I will upload them in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set of songs ...
