"Jaan Pehchan" was a Raj Kapoor/Nargis starrer.

Dunno how the movie was. Never watched it! blab.gif I buy/rent DVDs only for the songs! tongue.gif

Local desi stores are the place to go. Where do you live at? Here in SF bay area they have many stores where you can rent oldies on DVDs. I think a DVD rental website also has oldies - nehaflix or something like that.

I live on the other coast....Richmond, Virginia. we do have a Desi Video store but she does not rent. Is there a NetFlix type deal on the web where one can pay and rent?

Also is it possible to rent Bengali movies anywhere?
I buy from Calcuttaweb and trying to make my satyajit Ray, suchitra Sen collections, but it will be a while when I can say that I truly have a collectiuon!!!

Guess you are too far from Washington, which would be the closest place with lots of desi music/video stores.

Info on nehaflix is available at: http://store.nehaflix.com/songs.html

Video-clip in Real Media of a song-sequence from "BAAZ" (1953) picturized on Geeta Bali. The "humming" at the beginning of this beautiful song by Geeta-ji is particularly appealing.

Ok here is the story!!!! sad1.gif sad1.gif sad1.gif
The owner of the topmost grocery store: Laxmi Palace was throwing away videos of Anand Math, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Majhli Didi, Sazaa, Noorjehan, Footpath, Raat Aur Din, Aar Paar, Musafir, Parakh, Chitralekha, Anmol ghadi, devdas, Bandini, Madhumati etc. etc. He sold it to be for a dollar as well as 1.50!!!
I watched them, but after that people started just taking the cassettes (people who took from ones that borrowed from me!!!) The videos were of great quality!!!
So now i am left with only 4 from them.
Thank God I already had a Guru dutt collection!!

You know people say that BAAZ was a flop. But you know I liked Baaz more than I liked aar Paar. It was an excellent story written by Guru Dutt. Things shown in 1953 in Indian films as seen in Baaz in the ship , slave drivers/driving as well as throwing slaves into the mid ocean----are what Steven Speilberg showed in the famous movie Amistad.....It was the same Spainards/Portuguese!!!

I am anguished to think people in my country could not take such depth of picturisations!!!!!

Sorry either we were STUPID or these people were too advanced for the time!!! Whichever suits you, take it!!!

I HAD TO VENT!!!!!!

The number of times Helen has cavorted across my computer screen! Especially while copying from DVD songs by Asha-ji. Guess I'm gonna see her more, with songs for the Geeta Dutt forum. But the lady was an institution by herself and more than deserved the evening in her honour held in Mumbai not long ago, when today's stars paid tribute to Helen. It was a delight to see her "recently" in "HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM".

In this video-clip in Real Media, Geeta-ji sings a cabaret number for the one-and-only Helen.
