(Dev) Hum Bhi Insaan Hain (1948) Here is another movie for which I don't have a single song. Apparently music was given by Manna Dey jointly with another music director. I am requesting the members to share any songs they may have form this album. Thanks. Swarapriya The other music director would be Hari Prasanna Das, a lesser known MD of the 40s with credits like Mohabbat (1943) with the lilting KC Dey solo Chandni Raat and Insaaf (1946) with some Rajkumari songs. I only have one song from Hum Bhi Insaan Hain. Its light but a pleasant song...the singer K Parvez must've been a child... Kind Regards Faraaj Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. - Victor Hugo There is only one better thing than music - live music. - Jacek Bukowski I hate music, especially when it's played. - Jimmy Durante No good opera plot can be sensible, for people do not sing when they are feeling sensible. - W. H. Auden |

(Dev) Vidya (1948)
Here is an album that starred beautiful and talented Suraiya & Dev for the first time. They went on to star in another four or so movies and became one of the hot pairs in the movie industry that led to romance which for various reasons didn't come to fruition in a marriage. This is also the first movie for which the great Burmanda gave music to a Dev's movie. Nobody knew that this association will lead to some of the greatest music ever created by Burmanda for Dev's movies. Suraiya has four solos and a duet with Mukesh. She sounds absolutely great. Most of these songs came from the contributions by the Forum members. Thank you. I am uploading the songs in two back-to-back posts. The quality of the songs is not uniform. I will rate them fair to good. Here is the first set of songs ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Nov 28 2009, 12:32 PM Attached image(s) |

I am not certain whether these are all of the songs from this album or not. If not so, requesting members to share the missing ones if any. Thank you. Our fellow member and my good friend Parag (Sanka) tells me that the Hindi version "Milan" was based on the Bengali film "Naukadubi". Abhi Bhattacharya played the role in the Bengali version that Dilip played in Hindi. There is another song Geetaji sang in this movie and it is a short one but its full version can be seen and heard at the following path ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z66Ls9NpoHU Parag adds that Geetaji also sang these songs in the Bengali version of the movie. One of them was composed by Rabindranath Tagore himself even though not sure of which one. Tushar Bhatia, the gentleman who helped bring many of Geetaji's songs into limelight, tells that there is a 78 RPM recording of this song exists and that was confirmed by the composer Anilda himself. A nice post detailing who Tushar Bhatia is and tremendous favors he has done for Geetaji's fans all over the world can be found in the directory Hamara Forums > Legends > Geeta Dutt at the following path ... http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?show...9&hl=tushar Thank you very much Parag for all the information and getting things straight on the origins of this movie ...
