Why did Gulzar do this 'hazing'? Is it related to the character in the film? Has anyone seen the film?
Gulzar does get nostalgic about the pre-1947 undivided India very often. In his collection of poems, 'Pukhraaj', he has that lovely poem about the 'mehmaan' who come visiting from across the border... Self - belief is the most potent force.

Yes Gulzar does seem very nostalgic about it... I remember when Mani Ratnam's Bombay created such a furore about the Hindu Muslim romance, there was a lot of Kudos given to him for attempting such a bold theme... and he deserved it... At the time, mainstream cinema never touched this issue... However I remember in Lekin, Gulzar very quietly showed a Hindu-Muslim couple (Amjad Khan and Bina whatever her name was... ) beautifully. Now don't tell me you have not seen "Lekin" Btw, what is the poem about ... "Pukhraaj"? "This isn't right, this isn't even wrong." Wolfgang Pauli (1900-1958) "There are no facts, only interpretations." Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) |
