Shamshad Begum Sings For Ghulam Haider

Everybody knows that this combination was the one that brought Shamshad Begum into everybody's homes and hearts. We may recall discussions elsewhere that he had composed her first song Tere Poojan Ko Bhagwan way back in 1937. Khazanchi was the mere icing on the cake which began their filmy partnership.

HFGK has also incorrect information here and there.
This song has mostly been sung by Nasim Akhtar. Shamshad sings only a line or
two.

Yes. I do mean that there is no Noorjahan in this song.

Shama 1946. ik tera saharaa
The record label does not indicate part 1 and part 2.
One side begins with Ik Tera Saharaa and the other
with first line of stanza # 3.. Yoon Khoon Gharibon Ka.
A previous post in HF by someone said that stanza
# 4 and 5 in the record have different poetry than in
the movie.

Believe it or not.. the singer is Umrao Zia Begum.

You (and EarthMusic) credit "Ham gareebon ka bhi poora kabhi armaan kar de - Ghulam Haider - Shams Lucknavi - Shama" to Shamshad. But it sounds more like Suraiya. Can you confirm it is Shamshad?

The film version of the songs of Shama were sung by Shamshad Begum, while the records were in Suraiya's voice.

To my knowledge Shamshad Begum sang in the records and the movie. A separate version 78 rpm record with Suraiya ji singing was released later. The Shamshad version was released by Columbia while the Suraiya version was from HMV. I vaguely recall a senior member (probably urzung sahab) mentioning this with record numbers but can't remember the thread now. Perhaps urzung sahab or other senior members can give the details better.
