Full Version: Open Access To The Lyrics Of Geeta's Songs?
Hamara Forums > Legends > Geeta Dutt
Shaheed
Hi,

I think that having "open" access to the lyrics of Geeta's songs would help ensure new generations to share not just the sound, but the poetry of her art.

By "open", I mean both that the lyrics should be accessible from major music players, but also that her fans (you, dear reader!) should be able to help record/refine/improve them. My written Bengali is poor, and my knowledge of poetic Bengali worse, but I've posted something which I hope might inspire those more skilled to take up the challenge here:

http://lyrics.wikia.com/Geeta_Dutt:Tumi_Je_Amar

Thanks, Shaheed

BTW, I'd be delighted to work with anyone on the English side of things...

Yes, thanks, I saw the good work you appear to have done. My point was to have such lyrics available on people's music players, which I expect will happen mostly from generic lyric-hosting sites, and ideally in forms accessible to all. If you don't want to bother, then I'd like to request that you make the copyright on your work clear and allow it to be copied onto such sites by others.

Thanks, Shaheed
hildebrand
feel free to take the lyrics from the site and add to any lyrics site you find suitable. Thanks in advance.
Shaheed
I've been through those, and I *think* they are all in Hindi, so I feel a little underqualified to give them the right amount of attention. I'm not sure I should just blindly cut'n'paste...

Well, I've had a go! After a bit of scripting, a modest amount of tidying up, and a lot of repetitive clicking, you can now check out http://lyrics.wikia.com/Geeta_Dutt...enjoy!

I use Amarok, and the lyrics come up just fine.
Shaheed
OK, I had a go myself. With just minor tidying up, I've posted all ~130 of these Hindi lyrics to lyrics.wikia.org. Naturally, I'd welcome corrections, translations, or even the original Hindi. If you need help to get started, let me know. Start here to find them:

http://lyrics.wikia.com/Geeta_Dutt

I've also extended/reworked the lyric fetching script for Amarok - I've asked that to be distributed, but let me know if you cannot wait smile.gif.

Thanks, Shaheed

Great work Shaheed. clap2.gif

I also use Amarok 1.4
Do share whatt extension/rework you did for the lyrics to appear.
Shaheed
Actually, I already contacted the author of the Ultimate Lyrics plugin for Amarok. He has already included support for lyrics.wikia.org, so you should just be able to install an updated script. tongue1.gif

Note: I tested Ultimate Lyrics version 1.75, and it only fetches one set of lyrics, for example, it only fetches the Bengali version of the lyrics from:

http://lyrics.wikia.com/Geeta_Dutt:Tumi_Je_Amar

I've passed on this problem (and my version of the code) to the author - with luck he'll fix this in a newer version. I've also attached my version of the code. You'll need to follow the instructions in your version of the Ultimate Lyrics code to install it.
Shaheed
I've just had confirmation from the developer of the Ultimate Lyrics plugin for Amaork that the multiple lyrics support should be in the next version, due out imminently. \o/
hildebrand
Thanks Shaheed for the info.

BTW whats your experience with Amarok 2.x?

Well, as a former KDE hacker, I might be a bit biased biggrin.gif , but in my opinion KDE 4.x represent the states of the art. I particularly like Amarok 2.x, even though I didn't especially like the 1.x series.

Hi Shaheed

Many thanks for this special effort in spreading the word around about songs of Geeta ji and bringing them on a more commonly accessible platform like Wiki.

Best Regards
Parag

I've been looking for a kde/qt guy for sometime. Would like to discuss an idea with you. May I know your e-mail address please.
