Chaudhvin Ka Chand is a 1960 Hindi feature film directed by Mohammed Sadiq. A production of Guru Dutt, the film centers on a love triangle between Guru Dutt, Rehman and Waheeda Rehman, and features music by Ravi. Farida Jalal is a guest appearance in the film, her debut. After a disastrous box-office performance of Kaagaz Ke Phool, this was a highly commercially successful and comeback movie for Guru Dutt. The movie saved Guru Dutt's home production studio from ruins. According the interview by V.K. Murthy the movie made profits of then what a 100 movies were to have made. Everyone were sure of the movie's success, however not to the levels movie grossed.
Though not directed by Guru Dutt, the movie has an unmistakable stamp of the maestro! Some of the songs have been immortalized by beautiful lyrics, music and cinematography and are as popular today as they were in the days this movie was released.

About the music of the film :
Many firsts for this fim's music:
1) Ravi composing music for a Guru Dutt film
2) Lyrics being penned by Shakeel Badayuni for a Guru Dutt film
3) Rafi sahab singing as many as 5 solos (no duets at all)
4) Lata Mangeshkar ji singing her first and the only (?) song in a Guru Dutt film
5) A Guru Dutt film getting Filmfare awards for Lyrics and Male singer
Now coming to the main topic of our discussion. Since she got married to Guru Dutt, Geeta ji, the famous playback singer, was naturally the choice for songs in Guru's films. It is true that Asha ji and Shamshad ji had sung memorable songs in earlier films. This is the first instance where Geeta ji sings just one song (with chorus), that too a lackluster (IMHO) "Bidaai" song. What could be the reason for this?
Earlier I was of the feeling that the most of the songs were filmed on the leading lady Waheeda Rehman. Since Geeta ji was not singing for Waheeda, she did not sing the rest of the songs. Our friend Aditya corrected me that the only song actually filmed on Waheeda is the solo by Lata ji. The rest of the songs sung by Asha ji are filmed on other artists.
So what could be the reason of Geeta ji not singing them?
