sangeet ka safar

When Kishore Kumar once lamented that his brothers were famous while he was still struggling, she replied that someday he might surpass his siblings. Though Kishore ‘da’ laughed at her words, he soon got an opportunity to sing with her and when the latter’s words came true he fell at her feet.

While in Lahore, she lent her voice to ‘Tere pujan ko bhagwan’—a devotional non-filmy composition for a gramophone record company—by music director Ghulam Haider on the condition that her identity would not be disclosed. The company agreed and the records gave the singer’s name as ‘Radharani’.

The song proved a runaway hit but her uncle, who was unaware of the story behind it, told Shamshad that he was desperate to meet the singer and advised Shamshad to sing like Radharani!
