Landmark is the best place for we people, I too often go there in search of Gurus movies.
And this Sunday I went there and I got the Jackpot, I found the vcd for Badhti ka naam daadi.. clap1.gif

Simply gr8 movie it is, where Guru has played absolutely natural without any inhibitions of it being a hit/flop.. Its a real experimental movie..

For Baba Sehgal I used to admire him a lot in his hey days, I still remember the hit.... Aaage aage ladki peeche mai hoon sayaana... and thanda thanda paani..

For sure you would find some more nos. in landmark if you surf a bit more, another place can be Planet M at Brigade.

Apart from these two places I don't think there would be any other place which would be keeping Baba Sehgal stocks..

Absolutely Mudit. In fact I have befriended the desk staff there and they are helpful. They let me check their comp index too for the particular album I wanted..

Planet M hmmm but those guys often keep those remix albums and it is so annoying! Music world is much better than them, but off late I havent been to both places.. due to the stupid one ways and harrowing experience of parking one's vehicle. I used to park on the bylane - that leads to shoe maker side entrance.. The road is easily accessible from museum road - and essential a residential area .. tho have to pay a parking fee *wink*

There used to be Music india on infantry road which closed down almost a year and a half back. The shop staff and the owners used to be so helpful. In fact that is where I found that kannada song tape of Guru, apart from my other collections. There used to be a chap named Deepak, who would make special effort to get the cds/cass for me from the distributor. Wonder where he went now *sad* I remember his co-staff telling me that he is with his uncle in a music shop near airport road. Must see which one that is.

I need to search for more BS albums. I bought Ab main bhi venga boy(cd i got for 199) and pump your style.. (50 bucks). Wonder when I will get the others tho!

N *always optimistic*

My 'party favourite' is to sing "Chaahe koi mujhe junglee kahey" in Saigal style. The long drawn-out nasal "Yaanhoo" never fails to "impress". tongue.gif

Marcilo
He shot to fame with "Thanda Thanda Pani".. That was a complete lift off from Vanila Ice "Ice Ice Baby".. I guess he was the one who initiated concept of Hindi "rap".

Yep all his videos were visual treat.

Waise yeh Bath tab wala kaun sa gana hai…. Maine to dekha bhi nahi…

There is one number I remember … this was shot at train station … "Gori Gori.. le le dil chori chori"……

aaj ghar ja ke CD search marni padegi … not sure if these numbers are readily available on CDs

Here is a snippet from " http://www.babasehgalonline.com"

Contrary to his popular casanova popstar image, Baba Sehgal alias Harjeet Singh Sehgal is actually a B.Tech, Electrical Engineer from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar (Nainital). After working in reputed organisations like G.E.C and D.E.S.U., Baba following his natural instincts, made his entry in Bollywood, in the non-film category which is generally referred as Popular Music. The Indian Pop Scene got triggered in a major way after his mega chart buster, Thanda Thanda Pani, released in 1992. What followed is history .....

On that note here is listing of Baba Sehgal's Albums :

Kiss Miss (Golden Melodies)
Dilruba (Magnasound) Alibaba (Magnasound)
Thanda Thanda Pani (Magnasound)
Main bhi Madonna (Magnasound)
Dr. Dhingra (Magnasound)
Indian Romeo(BMG Crescendo)
Tora Tora (HMV)
Miss Loomba Loomba(T-Series)
Na arya hai Na jarya hai (Tips)
America mein Indian Dhaba (Tips)
Jugni mast kalandar (Archies Music)
The Magic of Dandiya (Archies Music)
Abb main Vengaboy (Virgin)

OOOOOOOOOOOO I will check the old video tape I have which I had recorded long long ago from Star Plus - when it used to be the only cable channel we used to have. Grr I hope my stupid vcr behaves and atleast plays if not records.

Gawd I must recollect this song.

I managed to get only two albums recently Marcilo. The rest are not in stock at all. I have informed the staff at the music shop to keep track of them and get me in whatever format available.

The BSOnline site gives two songs for online hearing.. and I was surprised one song has been marked as Asha Bhonsle number!

N

Do you remember the Hakuna matata .. it had him featured too!

O yes that is the site I mentioned. I found another BS fan from another group of KK fans who mail chats withe me and is not on any of the fora. Suddenly out of the blue the discussion came about BS being a fan of Guru, stirring old memories of BS.

I juz love him!

Yep…. I do remember Hakuna Matata.. He had done that number with "Anida" for a Disney movie. Not sure whether Disney bought rights for that song from "Boney M" or it was "inspired" from Hakuna Matata from Boney M.

Good to know that there are few more BS fans too…. Ummm BS fan of GURU… never knew about that but its possible….

Baba Sehgal, Rap Singer, On his tryst with Broadway and return to India:

You have been out of the limelight for quite some time. What were you busy with?

People thought I had fled India because of competition! How can a person like me, who has come out with 19 albums in 11 years, do that?

As for what I was doing, I was singing at a supper club on Broadway. Also, I recorded a single for Puff Daddy's music label and was the guest artiste for another Black Boy R&B artiste.

What's happening on the album front now?

I intend to come out with a single with one of the US biggies, maybe Will Smith or Puff Daddy, in April.

What else keeps you busy?

I am doing live shows. This apart, my wife Anju and I are working on an audio book for children which will be out in the market soon. Moreover, I am ready with Asimran, my first devotional music album.

What do you feel about Indi-pop music?

I personally feel that not a single artiste has an original style. People seem to be interested only in remixes these days -but I guess this trend will start fading out soon.

Why do singers find themselves surrounded by controversy?

Sometimes, when singers go abroad with their troupes, things do go wrong in that they are framed without any plausible reason.

Any plans to enter the Hindi-film scene?

I'm doing the musical score for Nalayak, a crossover film. If an interesting offer comes my way, then I'm game. Vinod Nair

Baba Sehgal returns in a new avatar after a decade’s hiatus

Tribune News Service
http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/20050826/delhi.htm#9

New Delhi, August 25
Baba Sehgal is back. The original Indian rapper who made rapping a household name with his hit numbers like ‘Thanda Thanda Pani’, ‘Aaja Meri Gaadi Mein...’ and ‘Hakuna Matata’ is back in a new avatar.

After a hiatus of nearly a decade, Baba Sehgal today made a formal announcement at a press conference that he is very much in business.

Engineer turned rap singer, Harjit Singh Sehgal, popularly known as Baba Sehgal, carved a niche for himself with his whacky lyrics, wild sense of humour and earthy rhythms. Baba shot into limelight wth his album ‘Thanda Thanda Pani’ (1992) and ‘Main Bhi Madonna’ (1993). His other albums include ‘Baba Bachaona’ (1993), ‘Dr Dhingra’ (1994), ‘Indian Romya’ (1995), ‘Ms Loomba Loomba’ (1996) and ‘Lion King’ (1997) which had the superhit song ‘Hakuna Matata’.

After staying away from media glare for the last few years, Baba is all set to bounce back into action with new albums and television serials.

Armed with a new album, for which talks are at a conclusive stage with two leading music companies, Baba’s never-say-die attitude and whacky sense of humour was at its best display.

Stating that this was the age of remixes, he disclosed that his new albums would have remixes of his own old hits and also some new numbers that would redfine the meaning of ‘hip-hop’.

Baba Sehgal also announced a formal tie up with Delhi-based entertainment group Amigos Entertainment that will bring out yet another album with Baba very soon. In fact, the auditions to select the dancers for the album would be held in Delhi the coming weekend.

Amigos Entertainment has made its foray into the world of television with a new comedy serial on Sony called ‘Banke Bihari Superstar’.

He was also excited about the fact that he would be the lead character in Star Plus serial ‘Le Jayenge Le Jayenge’ while he has already been featured in the Star News’ programme ‘Saas Bahu Aur Saazish’.

Apart from this, Baba is also going to be anchoring ‘Sare Ga Ma Pa’ music show on Zee Punjabi which he hoped would give other similar programmes a run for their money.

The big announcement was about his forthcoming film ‘Thodi Masti Thodi Dhoom’ with Hrishita Bhatt, Sanjay Kapur and Sharad Saxena. Baba said that he is enjoying playing the role of the villain in the film for which shooting has already commenced and is being directed by Vicky Ranawat. He also talked about his recent Punjabi release ‘Nalayak’ which had been a box office grosser in the UK and USA
