Milap (1955)

This was N. Dutta's debut album. He was assistant to S.D. Burman and other musicians for a long time. When he got a chance to provide music for this movie he jumped at the opportunity. It also had a first time director, Raj Khosla. Raj was a friend of Dev Anand, this movie's hero, and pror to this he assisted Guru Dutt in many of the movies Guru directed.

Knowing the power of lyrics, and having worked with S.D. and seen the results before, Dutta insisted on having lyrics written by Sahir Ludhianvi. He had his wish granted by the producer. The result is that there are some great lyrics and some nice music and some pretty songs. Even though movie was a financial failure, Dutta went onto provide some fine music for several movies. Of course, Khosla got another opportunity to direct C.I.D. starring Dev Anand for Guru Dutt. The success of that movie paved way to many more blockbusters from him.

There are eight songs in this movie. Only a couple of them are from CDs ("Hum Se Bhi Kar Lo" by Geetaji and "Yeh Bahaaron Ka Samaa" by Lataji). Others are all from a tape. There is too much hissing noise in all these songs. I tried to clean as much as possible but couldn't get rid of the noise. Even though quality of the audio for these songs is poor, they are pretty reasonable to listen to.

Now for the details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

The Mukhda tune of the Rafi-Geeta duet, "Bachna Zara Zamana Hai Bura" is identical to the Mukhda tune of the Lata solo, "Tara Rararam Mere Dil Mein Sanam" from Film:Hoor-e-Arab(1955), composed by Ghulam Mohammed!!!
