The most common question I keep seeing over and over from new members is How do I download?, which leads to the question, How do I upload?, because of the ratio system. So I am writing this topic, so I don't have to dig out previous topics where I've helped folks before, this way I can easily find my post and refer them here, hopefully it will be helpful in the future.

Please read the above 4 links first!

After reading the guidelines you will realize you need to compress your mp3s. You have to use a software like winrar or winzip to compress your mp3s before uploading to the board, and the files have to meet the requirements as listed in the guidelines. And then you have to maintain a 1:2 upload to download ratio (in other words, for every 1MB you share, you can download 2MB), so if the ratio is above .50 under your name, you can download with no problems. You can upload, however, at any time. You can find winrar free here:


If you still have problems uploading, make sure you have compressed (.rar or .zip) the .mp3 files.

Whenever you REPLY or create a NEW TOPIC you should see a window like the one below.
You will see the file attachments box with a BROWSE button, click on that and browse to your file, then you have to click "Add This Attachment", and then you have to wait as your browser uploads the song to page. After that is done, (can take a while depending on your ISP speed) you click the Add Reply button to make your post. You will be able to tell when it's done because your page will no longer be loading, it will refresh, and you will see a white box with your attachment inside it, it will read something like "you have used 4 mb of attachment space for this post......." and you will see a Remove button (deletes the attachment) and an Add Into Post button (which shows the attachment inside the post, not necessary, but nice to use). If you see i have uploded some songs but my ratio is still showing zero.

There is no guideline mentioned here where i can find out what is the problem going on . I uploded the songs two days bak in a Zip file and still it is showing my Zero points

Thanks but inspite of following all these guidelines, I am NOT able to upload any song - it says "Message is too big" even for a 1 MB song - so what is the solution?

Its so funny...

I live in Milwaukee, US (CST). I dont underrstand. My posts are not reflecting at all. Some of them show up exactly 24 hrs later and some do not show up at all.

I am not sure if I will see this post also. I am not able to contact the moderatior alos. It gives me message saying I do not have permissions to send a PM to a moderator. What am i supposed to do?

Read the guidelines -

3.0.22 Since Jan 2007, all new ordinary members will not be able to avail the facility of private messaging, due to the prior misuse of this facility.

3.0.21 All new members will be on moderation for a period of 3 months. During the period of moderation if the member abides by the board rules, the member will be removed from moderation at the end of the period mentioned. All moderated messages will be approved within 24 to 48 hours from the time of posting.

I have a dilemma now. I am uploading all the files as .zip file. However, when I am downloading other member's upload, they are getting downloaded as .rar files.

Now what is a .rar file? Am I doing something wrong while downloading them?

If I am doing right, how can I extract MP3 file from the .rar file? Hmm...seems to be a little confusing to me...

Hello Admin jee,

Since I am anew member, I am not able to send a Personal message to admin, so posting my question here.

Although my login id is "MusicLover" that I use to login to Hamaraforums, somehow my id displayed is "MucisLover" the word "Music" in my display name is spelt wrong.

Where can I change it? I checked profile settings but could not find a way to change my display id. COuld you please correct the spelling in my display id...not the login id that I use to log.

Hi,
.rar is a format same as .zip (compressed) format. I u are having a .rar file, first u need to unrar file and than you wil get your original mp3.
For that you must have software Winrar (easily available on net) . Install this sftware and than use it to unrar your .rar file .

Thank you Admin for this wonderful forum for music lovers & collectors. But i have a small problem & I would be extremely grateful if anybody helps me clarifying how the upload/download ratio is determined.

This doubt arose because I had uploaded a 3.66 MB file just yesterday and downloaded a 2.01 MB file today, but my download figure shows 7.6 MB against my ID & the ratio is shown as 0.48 eventhough i haven't downloaded anything other than the amount of MB mentioned already.

So how can i have an adverse UL/DL ratio when i have uploaded more than what i have downloaded. Please help me in this matter.

Clicking on a file and cancelling the download also registers it as a download of the whole file in your download bytes.

Rather, I mean I don't see any posts that have all the information you should have posted when posting a file, and a lot of times if that info is not there, Admin will not approve the uploads, but it is odd that I don't see any edits by Admin either. Admin would know for sure why your posts did not show up, if you did provide all that info, it could be that there was a server glitch? Anyways you can try again and see what happens. Please read the first post in this thread, read all the links it leads to, that way you will avoid deletion, You will see that you need to provide info in your post such as album year artist music director song name duration bitrate etc etc. Also you can not upload an mp3 file unless you compress it first into .rar or .zip format.


EDITED TO ADD: I guess you got the hang of it now since you edited the post in the link above and added songs successfully. Cool...

Am uploaded 29 songs or mores. 125 Mbs attachment in 1 - 2 days. my 1st songs attachments is showing me at 17th feb 2008 . 10:38 AM. & site as rules.

"Any post you submit need to be approved by the board admin or the forum moderator. Please do not submit the same post again. All the queued posts are validated within 24 hours."

Now after 24 hours later am checking in my id status in home page :-
Logged in as: mannnnnu ( Log Out ) UL: 0 bytes DL: 0 bytes Ratio: ---

My Id UL: 0 bytes / DL: 0 bytes Ratio --- No change within 24 hours. my ratio average is Zero. So i cant able to downloading some others songs bcz of UL: 0 bytes Ratio.
When am able to download songs from this site ?

It has been clearly stated in the board rules that it takes 24 to 48 hours to get moderated posts approved. Further it has been noticed that you have opened more than 25 odd threads for a single song uploads under a similar title. When you have to share songs based on a particular category, open just one thread and upload/post in the same thread. Do not start several threads.

just wanted to know whether deleting attachments after 30 days will reduce the ratio.
i deleted some of my attachments after 32-35 days and that has reduced my ratio also.
according to rules,an attachment can be removed after 30 days without affecting the ratio.

please clarify on this.

Files deleted from a post or from your control panel will delete the bytes added to the ratio.

I am new to HF. I have a good collection of Old Hindi Video Songs, which I like to share. Please help me:
- Which is the right Forum where I can post these?
- I understand from the guidelines that the maximum size for upload file is 10 MB. This may be too short for a video file. If I chose the least bit rate allowed, I may be compromising on quality. Any suggestions?

Read the guidelines for more details. There is no limit as of now put on the size of the file (as referred by you as 10 mb). But you must stick to the bitrate range and dimensions as given below. A snapshot of the image (no company logos should exist).

6.0.4 All the video attachments should range in between minimum 250kbps to a maximum of 780kbps with a minimum video dimension of 320 x 240.

Normal members have a maximum upload per post of 20 MB. If you have a bigger file you may consider making split zip files. Angels can upload upto 50 MB per post to my knowledge.

That should suffice. But remember to add the mandatory details of bitrate and duration and do not violate the bitrate specifications (range is between 96kbps - 192 kbps). You will get familiar with the board rules, until which time you will be under moderation.
