I remember this nice program on DD Mumbai in which Usha Mangeshkar had presented a few songs composed by her sister Meena. It also included Adinath Mangeshkar's (son of Hridaynathji) debue on TV.

There was this beautiful song "Kanhu ghevun jay Rani Dhenu ghevun Jay" by Ushaji. I have preserved it over the years and here goes..

Meena Mangeshkar remained in oblivion.. did she compose music for Bollywood too.. and to whom did she marry..

If I am not wrong, she composed a few children songs (Asava sundar chocolatecha bangla etc) which were sung by her kids. Also, I read somewhere that she was a person shy of publicity and from the change in her surname, I suppose she married Mr. Khadikar

Thanks for this song !! Just a minor correction, I believe the singer was Yogesh Khadikar and not Adinath. Long ago, Yogesh was one of the voices in the "Baal-geete" composed by Meena (remember saang-saang Bholanath ? )
In fact, in that program Sudhir Gadgil had interviewed Yogesh as well.....

Oh thank you Dhananjay for that correction. Your memory is very sharp indeed! Sudhir Gadgil was one of the best interviewers on Mumbai DD. Whenever I saw him, I felt as if he had just taken a bath just before the program started, so fresh were his looks!

this album 'Punha Ekda' is good actually.

i have it in cassette. when i found this cassette, its cover was all torn and damaged. but i still bought it.
I liked those songs. espacially these two -
'zimmad ghai' sung by Usha Mangeshkar
'raat baharali' sung by Adinath.

music is composed by Usha and Meena.

it was Sudhir Gaadgil who interviewed Asha Bhosle when she had sung Naty-geete on DD. that was one memorable programme.

i remember actor Yashwant Dutt (last appearance in film Sarkarnaama. he passed away just after completing the film.) had interviewed Asha Bhosle and Shridhar Phadke when they released Rutu Hirwa.

Asha had done videos of those songs too and they were included in the programme on DD.

all these old programmes are telecasted on DD at 10.30 pm (don't remember the day) repeatedly.

That is so true !!! I attended a couple of programs where he was the presenter... He seemed so fresh - Be it a "Pahaat Diwali" program or a late night "Maifal" that went past midnight !!!


I must say you learnt real fast.... I had struggled for some time, before I picked it up.

And that was a really nice song. I wonder why Meena Khadikar didn't take up more projects..

Wowww, gr88 dost log.. I was thinking about 'Kanhu gheun jaay' song for so long.. I did not record from the DD, I recorded from radio and thats u can hear the LP hiss in my version...

Gr888... And hey august, can u uplooad that album 'Punha ekda' u have?? I dont mind the bad sound quality.. So far its listenable, its ok for me..

This is one more song which used to feature very long time back on DD. I think it was origianlly sung by Suresh Wadkar or Sudhir Phadkeji.
This particualr song is sung by some new people. Nonethless the music is divine
