(AP) - BOMBAY, India-Bollywood action hero John Abraham is in the Afghan capital for a film shoot, and his partner and fellow Indian actress Bipasha Basu told an Indian newspaper she's worried about his safety.

Basu said she spoke to Abraham in Kabul regularly and although security for the film crew was tight, she constantly worries about him.

"They are well taken care of - that's what John tells us - but then there will always be that fear factor," Basu told the Times of India's Mirror newspaper.

Abraham plays a television journalist covering the war against the Taliban in the movie "Kabul Express."

Attacks and abductions by Taliban rebels are widely reported in the Indian media and this is the first Bollywood movie in several years to be shot in Afghanistan.

An Indian who worked as a driver for a road building crew in southern Afghanistan was killed last week in the latest of a string of kidnappings in the strife-torn country. Some 1,500 people have been killed this year in the deadliest rebel violence since the ouster of the Taliban in 2001.

Basu said she asks Abraham, "How many days more?" every time he calls.

"You can never trust the security of a place popular for its terrorists," she said. "I have watched videos that show them (Taliban) killing innocent people. I am very scared."

She said despite her reservations, Abraham was very keen on the film and committed to the project.

The movie also stars Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi and is directed by Kabir Khan, who has filmed two documentaries on Afghanistan.

One of India's top models, Abraham, 32, made his movie debut two years ago. After a string of forgettable films, his first box office hit came in 2004 with "Dhoom," or "Big Splash," in which he led a gang of bikers who robbed Bombay's rich businessmen. His most recent release was the comedy "Garam Masala," or "Hot Spice."

Model-turned-Bollywood actor John Abraham was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra, Mumbai.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who underwent a successful surgery for 'diverticulitis' of the small intestine on November 30, is recuperating in the same hospital.

"Abraham, aged 32, was admitted to the hospital last night with fever. Investigations will be carried out," said hospital spokesperson and vice president Narendra Trivedi.

Abraham was suffering from viral fever and bronchitis from mid-November, when he went for a shoot in Kabul for his film Kabul Express, Bollywood sources said. The sources added that since he was not well, he came back and was being treated. He was to return to Kabut for a month-long shoot for the film in December.

The film's team, stationed in Kabul, has been provided tight security after the killing of an Indian, Maniappan Raman Kutty, in Afghanistan last month. The film is directed by Kabir Khan, a documentary filmmaker who has considerable experience of filming in Afghanistan.

Kabul Express, a thriller, tells the story of a 48-hour long car drive in Afghanistan. Abraham plays the role of a television director.
