Beauty

Look in my eyes, what do you see,
Beauty of the inner me.
Deep down in your heart, what do you feel,
The beauty of a love that is real.
Touch my hand soft and tender
Is a beauty that makes you surrender.
Listen to my words, what do you hear,
Beauty flowing through the air
Look around you to your left and right
All you'll see is beauty tonight
Kiss my lips, what do you taste
A beauty that would never waste
Run your hands down my body
While looking into my eyes
Listen to my loving words
As my beauty conceals no lies

Love a star
A star cannot hurt you
Love the moon
The moon will not betray you
Reach for the unreachable
So it can't turn round and mock you
A mirage that persists to haunt you.

You say you must love
Well, pick a dream and love it
Knowing it as a dream
And loving it as a dream
Your dream, your ideal
Constant, unshakeable
It will keep you straight
Always there, always ahead
Give it your best
It will give you its best.

Childish, not realistic you say?
So be it
Reality does not exist.

Behind Silent Doors

Friendship and romance dance
Hand in hand descreetly...
Exposure can destroy joys uncovered
Too soon!
And the whispering one who loves another,
Knows this catch is rare.

Friendship and romance,
Enhanced in quarters secret...
Kept fresh, alive and undefeated.
Feeding on the calm of tranquility,
When peace is released to explore.

Friendship and romance
Comes to glance upon those who give,
Who share in private a growth of love
Unseen by eyes unslept by gossipying lies...
Yet set aside from envy...and swept away,
Behind silent doors to bloom!

Sir George Etherege (or Etheredge) c.1635-91\

Fear not, though love and beauty fail,
My reason shall my heart direct:
Your kindness now will then prevail,
And passion turn into respect:
Chloris, at worst, you’ll in the end
But change your Lover for a friend.

Ephelia fl. 1679
And yet I love this false, this worthless man,
With all the passion that a woman can;
Dote on his imperfections, though I spy
Nothing to love; I love, and know not why.
‘Female Poems’ (1679)

David Everett 1769-1813
You’d scarce expect one of my age
To speak in public on the stage;
And if I chance to fall below
Demosthenes or Cicero,
Don’t view me with a critic’s eye,
But pass my imperfections by.
Large streams from little fountains flow,
Tall oaks from little acorns grow.

Edward Fitzgerald 1809-83
‘The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám’ (1859)

‘A book of verses underneath the bough, ;
A jug of wine, a loaf of bread—and Thou ;
Beside me singing in the wilderness ;
Oh, wilderness were paradise enow!’ ;

Ah, my belovèd, fill the cup that clears
To-day of past regrets and future fears:
To-morrow!—Why, to-morrow I may be
Myself with yesterday’s seven thousand years.

Ah, make the most of what we yet may spend,
Before we too into the dust descend;
Dust into dust, and under dust, to lie,
Sans wine, sans song, sans singer, and—sans End!

Oh, come with old Khayyam, and leave the wise
To talk; one thing is certain, that life flies;
One thing is certain, and the rest is lies;
The flower that once hath blown for ever dies.

With them the seed of wisdom did I sow,
And with mine own hand wrought to make it grow;
And this was all the harvest that I reaped—
‘I came like water, and like wind I go’.

Ah, fill the cup:—what boots it to repeat
How time is slipping underneath our feet:
Unborn TO-MORROW, and dead YESTERDAY,
Why fret about them if TO-DAY be sweet!

Strange, is it not? that of the myriads who
Before us passed the door of darkness through,
Not one returns to tell us of the road,
Which to discover we must travel too.

The moving finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy piety nor wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a line,
Nor all thy tears wash out a word of it.

And that inverted bowl we call The Sky,
Whereunder crawling cooped we live and die,
Lift not thy hands to
It for help—for It
Rolls impotently on as Thou or I.

Indeed the idols I have loved so long
Have done my credit in this world much wrong:
Have drowned my glory in a shallow cup
And sold my reputation for a song.

Parting

by Charlotte Bronte

There's no use in weeping,
Though we are condemned to part:
There's such a thing as keeping
A remembrance in one's heart:

There's such a thing as dwelling
On the thought ourselves have nurs'd,
And with scorn and courage telling
The world to do its worst.

We'll not let its follies grieve us,
We'll just take them as they come;
And then every day will leave us
A merry laugh for home.

When we've left each friend and brother,
When we're parted wide and far,
We will think of one another,
As even better than we are.

Every glorious sight above us,
Every pleasant sight beneath,
We'll connect with those that love us,
Whom we truly love till death!

In the evening, when we're sitting
By the fire perchance alone,
Then shall heart with warm heart meeting,
Give responsive tone for tone.

We can burst the bonds which chain us,
Which cold human hands have wrought,
And where none shall dare restrain us
We can meet again, in thought.

So there's no use in weeping,
Bear a cheerful spirit still;

Never doubt that Fate is keeping
Future good for present ill!

Did I / anyone else post it before ?

Some from Nicholas Gordon

Though I broke my promise and your trust

Though I broke my promise and your trust,
My love for you remains as strong as ever.
I know it must mean little to swear never
Again to break my word, and yet I must.
What else can I do? Your fury's just,
But all my world will darken if you sever
My heart from yours. Please wait, and I'll endeavor
To blow new life into this mound of dust.
All that you require of me I'll do
And more, if what you ask leaves room for more.
Thus time will heal this wound and leave no scar.
Since I now know the pain of losing you,
I'll be yours more than I could before,
And you will see what my true feelings are

My pride is like a castle in the sand

My pride is like a castle in the sand
Washed away by hope and need and pain.
You left me holding someone else's hand,
And now you stand alone in midnight rain.
I want you back again if you want me;
I'm ready to rebuild what we have lost,
As the owner of a dream swept out to sea
Builds back upon the beach despite the cost.
My love for you is stronger than the waves,
Stronger than the doubts that we may share;
If you will say the word that my heart craves,
I'll find some flowered field and take you there.
And Time will sweep this interlude away;
It will barely be a memory someday.

Love is like a large white cat

(by Nicholas Gordon)

Love is like a large white cat
Sitting on its paws.
You may pet it all you like;
It lives by its own laws.

It comes and goes as it decides
No matter what you say.
It seems the more you want it near,
The more it goes away.

And then when you are quite content
To sit out in the sun
Alone with just your thoughts and dreams,
Not needing anyone,

In it comes, as if in fear
That somehow you'll forget,
And jumps up purring in your lap,
Demanding to be pet.

Give me a kiss to build a dream on
And my imagination will thrive upon that kiss
Sweetheart, I ask no more than this
A kiss to build a dream on

Give me a kiss before you leave me
And my imagination will feed my hungry heart
Leave me one thing before we part
A kiss to build a dream on

When I’m alone with my fancies...I’ll be with you
Weaving romances...making believe they’re true

Give me your lips for just a moment
And my imagination will make that moment live
Give me what you alone can give
A kiss to build a dream on

When I’m alone with my fancies...I’ll be with you
Weaving romances...making believe they’re true

Give me a kiss to build a dream on
And my imagination will thrive upon that kiss
Ah sweetheart, I ask no more than this
A kiss to build a dream on

- LA

I believe if I should die,
And you should kiss my eyelids when I lie
Cold, dead, and dumb to all the world contains,
The folded orbs would open at thy breath,
And, from its exile in the isles of death,
Life would come gladly back along my veins.

From Creed by Mary Ashley Townsend

See! the mountains kiss high heaven,
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister flower would be forgiven
If if disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth,
And the moonbeams kiss the sea:--
What are all these kissings worth,
If thou kiss me not me?

From Love's Philosophy by Percy Bysshe Shelley

On the patio of that little cafe in the Del Mar Plaza
across from the Esmeralda Bookstore, where you can
sit sipping lam5 & look out past the Pacific
Coast Highway onto the ocean, a couple is tangled
in one of those steamy, smoldering kisses.
His right arm coils her waist, arching her back
& drawing her toward him. He could be Sicilian,
or Lebanese, with that gorgeous complexion,
those chiseled forearms, that clutch of dark curls.
The young woman's skirt, lilac & sheer, lifts
as she stretches, levitated out of her sandals, out
of her body, her head flung back, fingers
wrapped in his curls. Her long chestnut hair
spills toward her thighs as she clings to his mouth,
to his loins, to his chest. How wickedly
beautiful both of them are! To their left,
off the North County coast, on an infinite sea,
two sailboats triangulate heaven. In the sheen
of the morning, you munch an apricot scone
& sip your cafe latte, that blue cup of light at your lips,
with its genie of steam. In its vase, on your table,
a white tea rose shimmers. Your fork
shines on its plate. Everything trembles & glows.

Lovers sometimes rub

(by Nicholas Gordon)

Lovers sometimes rub each other's
Nerves a little raw.
We find ourselves beside ourselves
And don't want any more.

But then we think: What would we do
Without that sweet embrace?
How could we go from day to day
Not seeing that dear face?

And then we see our discontent
From the other side,
Looking at how we must look
Without our blinding pride:

And we feel love come flowing in
Like a warm and gentle sea,
Knowing that this special place
Is where we want to be.

Night comes for me throughout the day

Night comes for me throughout the day
And closes my external door.
I know that I am in for more
Unhappiness, and yet I stay.

The pain of missing you is less
Than that of missing thoughts of you.
And so I'd rather suffer through
This torture than face emptiness.

I want you with me, even though
You're not with me. You are the light
That gets me through this awful night
Yet brings the darkness where I go.

sad1.gif

you are the light defining describing me
I cling on to you, lingering by the very edges
mesmerized and bound by the brightness

Your keep moving bringing alive the inanimate
how so wonderful and colorful patterns your touch can weave.
I might have missed otherwise, showing me how wonderful
you lure and entice me to leave
the comfortable wraps of darkness and follow your pursuit,
never letting me go neither embracing my self

I know some day I will be alone again
in silence and misery of my comfortable darkness
and lost once more in my mundane existance
trying to reach out and touch that flower on the wall
in hope of finding warmth
or that table top to trace a familiar pattern.

I know am just the shadow you cast
in a bright gay moment, never to look back
that faded somewhere in that path traversed long ago

To the poet belongs llife in its full & absolute entirety, not merely the beauty that men look at, but the beauty that men listen to........... Most people become bankrupt to having invested too heavily in the prose of life. To have ruined one's self over poetry is an honour.

Morning

Every morning
the world
is created.
Under the orange
sticks of the sun
the heaped
ashes of the night
turn into leaves again
and fasten themselves to the high branches ---
and the ponds appear
like black cloth
on which are painted islands
of summer lilies.
If it is your nature
to be happy
you will swim away along the soft trails
for hours, your imagination
alighting everywhere.
And if your spirit
carries within it
the thorn
that is heavier than lead ---
if it's all you can do
to keep on trudging ---
there is still
somewhere deep within you
a beast shouting that the earth
is exactly what it wanted ---
each pond with its blazing lilies
is a prayer heard and answered lavishly,
every morning,
whether or not
you have ever dared to be happy,
whether or not
you have ever dared to pray.
- Mary Oliver

Move on
find your way through broken faith
and shattered hope keep going
take along unfulfilled dreams
soaked in tears and a jar
full of unkept promises

Unchain that heart
let it shatter and fall apart
into a million pieces
and gather them all up again
rebuild the fortress from the stone on your heart

Shake that solid ground
blast all bonds and seals
let the light shine through
in vast deserted valley beyond
embrace the life the morning reveals

Joseph Heller 1923—
There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one’s own
safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind...
‘Catch-22’ (1961)

Thomas Hood 1799-1845
What is a modern poet’s fate?
To write his thoughts upon a slate;
The critic spits on what is done,
Gives it a wipe—and all is gone.

Robert Greene c.1560-92
Ah! what is love! It is a pretty thing,
As sweet unto a shepherd as a king,
And sweeter too;
For kings have cares that wait upon a crown,
And cares can make the sweetest love to frown.
Ah then, ah then,
If country loves such sweet desires do gain,
What lady would not love a shepherd swain?

Dorothy Frances Gurney 1858-1932
The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God’s Heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.

John Gay 1685-1732

True love is a sacred flame
That burns eternally,
And none can dim its special glow
Or change its destiny.
True love speaks in tender tones
And hears with gentle ear,
True love gives with open heart
And true love conquers fear.
True love makes no harsh demands
It neither rules nor binds,
And true love holds with gentle hands
The hearts that it entwines.

Wild nights should be

Might I but moor
Tonight in thee!

You kissed me! My head drooped low on your breast
With a feeling of shelter and infinite rest,
While the holy emotions my tongue dared not speak,
Flashed up as in flame, from my heart to my cheek;
Your arms held me fast; oh! your arms were so bold --
Heart beat against heart in their passionate fold.
Your glances seemed drawing my soul through mine eyes,
As the sun draws the mist form the sea to the skies.
Your lips clung to mine till I prayed in my bliss
They might never unclasp from the rapturous kiss.

Love's Omnipresence

Were I as base as is the lowly plain,
And you, my Love, as high as heaven above,
Yet should the thoughts of me your humble swain
Ascend to heaven, in honour of my Love.
Were I as high as heaven above the plain,
And you, my Love, as humble and as low
As are the deepest bottoms of the main,
Whereso'er you were, with you my love should go.
Were you the earth, dear Love, and I the skies,
My love should shine on you like to the sun,
And look upon you with ten thousand eyes
Till heaven wax'd blind, and till the world were done.
Whereso'er I am, below, or else above you,
Whereso'er you are, my heart shall truly love you.
