Enjoy all songs, huge rages among all, from Feroze Nizami Ji's most famous film, Jugnu (1947). The film starred top and great singing star Noor Jehan Ji among its lead, and the classic tragedy bought a lot of fame to the then long term top star, thespian Dilip Kumar Ji. Very surprisingly, great singer Mohammed Rafi appears in the song "Wo Apni Yaad Dilane Ko", as one of the college boys, even giving playback for the first time for Dilip Kumar, whom he sang a very large number of songs after that (even though Mukesh Ji and Talat Ji sang a lot for him in the following few years).

Noor Jehan Ji's songs are evergreen and are much heard even today by music lovers. Rafi Ji had his first huge break in popularity with the Noor Jehan Ji duet, Feroze Nizami Ji's most famous song, Yahan Badla Wafa Ka. Top veteran stalwart Shamshad Begum Ji (singing for Latika Ji, comedian and famous comedian Gope Ji's wife) and the famous classical genius Roshan Ara Begum Ji (singing for a very young Shashikala Ji) added to the excellence of music apart from Noor Jehan Ji and Rafi Ji.

Here is the delightful singing list with film details.

All classics are 128 kbps - songs 1 and 6 uploaded in next post due to lack of space:

Finally, we have reached Feroze Nizami Ji's 10th and last film in India. This is Rangeen Kahani (1947). The songs became quite popular, starring Feroze Ji's all time Indian favourite, Amirbai Ji. Through this film, just before leaving India, he shows his great liking for Amirbai Ji as a singer. He himself did a great job singing 2 duets with Amirbai Ji. Apart from this, he used his other most favourite female singer, Hamida Bano Ji as well as another outstanding 1940s vocalist, Binapani Mukherjee Ji very well. Amirbai Ji made quite a famous voice for Indo - Pak actress and the film's heroine Surekha Ji and so it was a reasonable success.

Here are 4/9 songs from the classic which I have, our kind friends are requested to upload the remaining. Thanks a lot to our generous Balaji Ji for song 9.

All 4 songs are 128 kbps:

10. Rangeen Kahani (1947)

1. Dukh Ke Din Ab Sukh Se Talen, Banne Ko Saajan Bombay Chalen - ?

2. Ye Dilli Kahin Dil Ki Lagi Na Ban Jaaye - Amirbai Karnataki

3. Man Meri Baat Na Maane, Main Thak Gayi Samjhake - Amirbai Karnataki - 2.46 min

4. Main Sharab Hoon, Main Sharab Hoon, Main Hizab Hoon - Amirbai, Binapani Mukherjee, Hamida Bano, Chorus - 3.31 min

5. Bujh Gaye Ashaon Ke Deepak, Sab Apne Mukh Mod Gaye - Amirbai Karnataki

6. Tujh Bin Kaun Sahara Bhagwan, Tujh Bin Kaun Sahara - Amirbai Karnataki - courtesy Viraj Bhai

7. Aa Gayi, Aa Gayi, Aa Gayi, Mere Man Ki Rani Aa Gayi - Amirbai Karnataki, Feroze Nizami - 3.17 min

Wah wah, Viraj Bhai! Bahut maza aa gaya. Feeling very delighted and nostalgic to hear so many more favourite singers is Feroze Ji's mellifluous creations. Feroze Dastoor Ji, Amirbai Ji, Rajkumari Ji......extremely melodious. Just hope we get to hear even the great Zohrabai Ji singing for him in Piya Milan (1945).

Your contributions are very much appreciated, please do go on with your kindness and generosity.

Thanks a million for the very extremely gems!

Aditya, Vidur: Thank you for confirming that Nirmala Devi also acted. I didn't know about this, and was asking only because there was also a discussion on RMIM long ago about six women with "Nirmala" in their name who were involved in the movies in the 1940s and 1950s!

Vidur: You refer to Nirmla Devi's husband as "Arun Kumar", which again raises questions! Nirmala Devi's husband was Arun Ahuja. There was another Arun Kumar who was a playback singer (think "dhiire dhiire aa re baadal") and an occasional composer (the 1953 "Parineeta" is perhaps his best-known film) - this was not Arun Ahuja. Did Arun Ahuja also sing under the name Arun Kumar? I didn't know he had given playback.

I am afraid I have not been able to download most of the songs as yet - will be doing so shortly. I did like what I heard so far. You are doing a wonderful job of making truly rare music available to us. Thanks a ton!

I keenly await more Rajkumari songs from your collection - she is one of my favourite singers!

Warm regards,
Abhay

7. Hamein To Sham-E-Gham Mein Kaatni Hai Zindgi Apni - Noor Jehan - 3.14 min

The 3:14 min version of this song has the second line of the last stanza cut short a bout of coughing. There is another version where that line (bujhaanii hai tere daaman se sham'a-e-zindagii apanii) is sung completely once, and the coughing cuts it short the second time it is sung. I am uploading the latter version here. While the length shows as 4:19 minutes, the song itself is about 3:30 mins; the first 40-odd seconds and the last two seconds are dialogue from the film. I haven't edited it because I have only an mp3 version (encoded @ 128 kbps), and re-encoding mp3 causes deterioration of the sound quality. If anyone can get it off the film without the dialogue bits, that would be great!

The 3:14 version appears to be from the 78 rpm record. I wonder why they didn't record the song in the studio without the coughing!

Warm regards,
Abhay

You are most welcome, Sir. Glad to be of help smile1.gif I remember there was a 1930s actress, who perhaps came in 1940s too, and maybe sung, with the same name 'Nirmala'. Though this was just a stage name with her real name being some Anglo - Indian name.

I believe both are same. There is a very famous 1940s 'Arun' and this is the one even in Qismat (1943) songs. The Dheere - Dheere male singer was Ashok Kumar Ji, then quite an established singing star. I think and am almost sure, that 'Kumar' was used in his case (as in many more?) sparingly by the media. He did both playback and singing - acting. He did do quite a lot of films with Nirmala Ji (even if not self - directed).

Hope you enjoy the remaining songs as much as the ones you've downloaded. Oh, it's my absolute pleasure. It is really entertaining to share such golden melodies with each other, isn't it. I feel very happy to know you liked it.

Rajkumari Banaraswali/Dubey Ji you say (there was a 1930s singing star with surname Calcuttewali Ji), truly an artist par excellence. I love any song by her. We must make a thread sharing each other's rare numbers! I need a lot of her songs too. But as of now, I have (including popular ones) 248 songs. Not bad,eh? smile1.gif I love such great artists. She, Shamshad Ji and Geeta Ji were untrained but still sang so many classical gems. Long live all these greats.

You are most welcome! wink2.gif
