Would someone please illuminate me on the topic of "resampling". I noticed, for example, an upload by sangeetbhakt having "resampled" in the tag.

What does resampling do in terms of improving sound quality? Any pointers on using this feature would be appreciated.

Thanks.

In one word, it does "nothing".

resampling can be downsampling or upsampling. In the former case, it just reduces the file size by lowering the bit rate (say, from 128 kbps to 64 kbps) and thus, decreasing the quality of the mp3.

In upsampling, it just bloats the size of the file without introducing anything new or better in it. If all you have is hay, you can only make a hay-stack out of it.

I use a program called DePopper which minimizes the 'big clicks' and then minimizes the 'small pops', in less than a minute. Even Goldwave has that function, but I've not found it  effective. But surely, there's something odd about this "7-hour" business.

U said that sw came bundled with some other stuff right? sad1.gif

The main problem I face is I have always been so bad at maths and physics that all these controls with numbers just do not mean anything to me!!!
Can anyone tell me how I can increase vol of vocals alone? sad1.gif

Sometimes u get lucky, there will be a pause in the song (esp soon after the start), where there's almost no music. I play the song expanding the visual, so that I can see the pause too, if any ... and then use that as the profile. Failing which you rely on all the other Noise reduction effects. I haven't ever got a 7 hour wait to reduce crackle, mainly because I refuse to listen to anything "horrendous", honestly, I just can't stand all that noise, I get physically ill - headaches and all!! Max. I have had to wait has been an hour maybe, I suppose the time would depend on all the settings, which I don't understand, just muddle through. Hope I haven't confused and confounded you smile1.gif Good luck!

Well I really need to get a hang of this stuff for while I love crystal clear music and any day appreciate great songs of the post 60s with each instrument distinct and so on I also have a special fancy for 40s songs. 30s I rarely like but love the quaint music of the 40s and early 50s and any music U get of that era seems to be horrendous in quality. Film versions can be better provided they do not skip but most often lp and cass stuff is just as full of noise as it is of music!!!
BTW does anyone know how to correct mild distortions in sound--like slightly out of tune files? sad1.gif
The worst of editing sounds unlike say pictures is I really do not understand what I am doing--we are talking abt a person who really does not even know much abt bass and treble!!! So it is all hit or miss!!

Hello there,

I'm from Turkey and rather new to this forum.

I like Indian songs, especially the old ones. For about one year I have been in process of cleaning old Hindi songs in my own respect.

I found this topic by chance and interested in it.

Is it possible for me to have the song in question?

I'm not pretentious but just want to have a humble chance...

Thanks in advance

Regards

Kistin
