TTG:

Doesn't monsterni's upload sound like Arjuna taking a respite to sing a duet with Subhadra even as the Pandavas and Kauravas are raising a din in the background? tongue.gif

Sounds recorded in ancient times, too! blab.gif

I bet it's of archival/historical importance. laugh.gif

Yet, we are humbly 'grrrrrate'-ful for these tender mercies emanating from Shurpi herself. rollf.gif

Haan ab aayi baat samajh mein. But seriously my shy friend's version of the Lekh song has me humbled and in a state of sad realisation of my non existent abilities. cry.gif
Talkzji teach me more!!!!!!!! How do U remove noise when the track starts with music and ends with it with not even a peep of isolated noise before or after. sad1.gif

Some tracks start and/or end abruptly with loud music as intended. In such cases, I retain it the way it was, for "fading in" alters the original music. All I do is to ensure there are a few seconds of silence before and after the track.

But in instances when the recording starts abruptly in the middle of the music prelude, I use "fade in" to introduce the music gradually.

Similarly, if a song ends abruptly with the last line of the sung portion, or the music ends abruptly, I use "fade out" for a gradual tapering off, even if it means that the last few words/chords may become virtually inaudible.

When copied from audio-cassette, the "silence" before/after the song would contain 'hiss'. What I do is to delete those recorded silent sections and insert a few seconds of silence (which of course, will be without the hiss). The silence before and after the song is a requisite. Otherwise, if we burn the track onto a CD, there will be no gap between songs.

I don't know if I've answered your question. But even when you are working with a track with no silence before/after, the process of "cleaning" would be the same --- remove pop/click, softening, filtering, etc. And at the end of it all, adding a few seconds of silence before and after the track.

If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

Yes I had read that--do I reply here or there???? sad1.gif
The thing is U edit noise in Sound forge which has a diff method. Cool edit uses snatches of the track before or after the music and vocals begin/end where there is just crackle and noise--U add that profile and it is used to clean similar noise in the part with music and vocals. So my question was when the song begins with music and ends with the same with no beginning needle scratch etc what does one do? If U selct any portion the music gets recorded by the sw as noise U have selcted and it gets removed over the whole track!!! Do U understand the problem now? Thanks for the tips on fading in/out.

Just as in regard to you, I understand the problem but don't have a solution. blab.gif

I use Sound Forge, so let's wait for the CoolEdit experts, including the answer to " And why does the sw need 7 hrs to remove crackle"?

I use a program called DePopper which minimizes the 'big clicks' and then minimizes the 'small pops', in less than a minute. Even Goldwave has that function, but I've not found it effective. But surely, there's something odd about this "7-hour" business.

(I've moved your post from the "LEKH" song thread to this appropriate venue).

If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

Sometimes u get lucky, there will be a pause in the song (esp soon after the start), where there's almost no music. I play the song expanding the visual, so that I can see the pause too, if any ... and then use that as the profile. Failing which you rely on all the other Noise reduction effects. I haven't ever got a 7 hour wait to reduce crackle, mainly because I refuse to listen to anything "horrendous", honestly, I just can't stand all that noise, I get physically ill - headaches and all!! Max. I have had to wait has been an hour maybe, I suppose the time would depend on all the settings, which I don't understand, just muddle through. Hope I haven't confused and confounded you smile1.gif Good luck!
