Index Of Nearly 4000 Filmi Songs Of Rafi Sahab, Want To Share & Request For Balance Options

Hi All Rafi Bhakts, Rafi Fan(atic)s, fellow Rafians

Last Sunday, Anupamaji uploaded a list of around 500 rare numbers of Rafi Sahab which swelled my tally of collection of Rafi Songs to around 3950.. I thought I would do an encore this weekend by carrying forward the endless quest for rare numbers of Rafi Sahab.

I was waiting for the psychological mark of 4000 before doing a Myawan i.e. indexing my collection & sharing it in the forum . I’m jumping the gun a bit and loading the index as an excel file. The ones in blue I have and ones in red I am requesting.. I would be only too happy to share my collection (and satisfy my conscience as a token repayment of the debt I owe to the forum). Your requests are welcome, and they would give me the brownie points for downloading!. However, please note that my songs are mainly from YT, Dr Surjit Singh, Hamara Forums, and various MP3 sites in the net. I do not have any VCD/DVD/CD rips (though I plan to learn it later and shop for the missing numbers, maybe in Chandni Chowkh).

I am starting with films with alphabet A, and will proceed till end, after indexing each alphabet, and seeing the response. (I’ve indexed only A so far, the base file is Myawan, which was kindly shared by Mr Seshadri from HF). Having grown up on a dose of Radio Ceylon (and Vividh Bharti) I am inclined to add the lyricist and cosigners to the extent possible mainly through earthmusic(like anupamaji did)

For the record, I began my collection around 1 ½ years ago when I got a laptop. At 47 I am not tech savvy, and was not aware of the treasure trove waiting in the internet. My 300 odd cassettes were either worn out or lost or not returned (anyway they were all common songs and not the rare gems on the net and specially this forum). I started with You Tube and got around 2800, but the bonanza was thru this forum, with rare gems from unheard and obscure films apart from sites like Dr Surjit Singhs lovely one.

The excel files of films with Alpha A has around 420 songs (Duniya Pakki 420!!).

My request to fellow forum members is :

- Please upload the ones in Red irrespective of the sound quality or bitrate (To my old ears they make no difference, and anyway most songs of Rafi Sahab are in mono rather than stero). Even radio recordings are most welcome (manna from heaven)
- Needless to add some of the missing numbers are common with Anupamajis list
- I’ll upload the requests that I get asap (within 48-72 hours, today is a half day for me)
- Please point out the errors, duplications, wrong singer, wrong film, etc. As I mentioned earlier, my collection is thru net. While I’ve tried to cross check through HF and earthmusic, there are bound to be errors.
- Please add the missing film numbers of Rafi Sahab to the list. As Venkat mentioned, counting Rafi Sahab numbers are like counting grains in a granary, it is an endless lifelong pursuit.
- I have another 300 plus other languages/ghair filmi/unidentified songs of Rafi Sahab, which I plan to tackle indexing after this endeavor.
- Inshallah, we can consolidate our collection of Rafi Sahab numbers, and more importantly, leave it for posterity for the future generations (I notice quite a few persons below 30, i.e. after Rafi Sahab expired in YT, HF and the net who are equally ardent fans of Rafi Sahab)

I think the best bet for the balance rare numbers is this forum. Looking forward to responses

I can't see your or myawan's full collection but would appreciate if either of you can post here his earliest songs (mostly Punjabi) composed by Shyam Sunder. One of them is Soniye Ni Heeriye from Gul Baloch and a few others....it would be much appreciated...

The Aangan song is really lovely.

As regards the Aadmi song, it sounds like Talat Mehmood to me.

I was reading somewhere in the net, that Manoj Kumar wanted Mahendra Kapoor (Rafi Sahab was chosen for Dilip Kumar in any case!) and was adamant on it.

However Naushad sahab thought that Talat would be better suited.

So he recorded both the versions.

Thus in the film version it is Mahendra Kapoor and record version it is Talat (or vice versa!)


Can you and any others please confirm

I do have quite a few Punjabi songs, but I do not know how many of them are early 40s of one of his mentors i.e. Shyam Sunderji,.

I am yet to index the non filmi and other languages numbers.

As regards the first number of Rafi Sahab i.e. Gul Baloch number, I guess it is gold dust and all of us are eagarly looking for it.
