(Raaj) Vaasna (1968) Here is a classic from the combination of Chitragupt and Sahir Saab. There are several melodious songs in this beauty. My favorites include both solos by Rafi Saab, "Aaj Iss darja" and "Itni Naazuk Na Bano" and the duet of Rafi Saab with Lata, "Yeh Parvaton ke Daayre". I am uploading these and the rest of the songs from an original soundtrack album below. Now for these lovely songs ... What an album of Rafisaab and Chtragupta. Till 1970 no MD had worked more with Rafisaab then Chitragupta. Itni nazuk na bano is simply matchless. That is an amazing stat. I am not disputing it, but I always thought it probably was Shankar & Jaikishan. This is mostly based on the success enjoyed by Shammi & Rajendra with S&J's collaboration till that date. Cheers. -S |

(Dharmendra) Shikar (1968)
"Shikar" was the first full length color movie under the banner of "Guru Dutt Films". It was produced by Guru's brother, Atma Ram, who took over after his brother's unexpected death during the shooting of "Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi (1967)". "Shikar" was a hit thanks mainly due to its beautiful music and dashing looks of Dharmendra. This movie was photographed by the great V.K. Murty who was a close friend and associate of Guru. He photographed all of Guru's own movies except "Chaudhvin Ka Chand". Most of the songs from this album became very popular. The standout song is the one by Asha, "Parde Mein Rahne Do". Asha is at her best in these type of songs and she does it here very beautifullly. Also worth mentioning are Rafi Saab's solo, "Tumhaare Pyaar Mein", and the duet of Kalle and Kapoor, "Mere Sarkaar". Here are these and other songs from an original sound track album ... Attached image(s) ![]() |

(Jeetendra) Shaadi ke Baad (1972)
L.V. Prasad, who made so many hit movies in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, produced and directed this movie. This movie was based on the hit Telugu film "Pelli Chesi Choodu" made in 1952 that was directed by Prasad himself. Prasad also directed this movie made in Tamil, "Kalyanam Panni Paar". Both Tamil and Telugu versions had, it seemed like, a song almost every ten minutes or so. But the Hindi version, made 20 years later was a smaller in length with fewer songs but retained the story conecept of the other versions. I will upload songs from the Telugu film in this thread immediately after uploading the Hindi songs. Here is a description of the songs of the Hindi version and the songs themselves ... Pelli Chesi Choodu (1952) - A Telugu Film
This movie was the basis for the Hindi film "Shaadi ke Baad (1972)". It was made by Vijaya Pictures and directed by the great L.V. Prasad. Rama Rao was the hero of the movie. He was introduced by Prasad himself in 1949 in a supporting role in "Mana Desham". Later he directed him as a hero for Vijaya's maiden venture "Shavukaru" in 1950. Savitri, who was in Prasad's "Samsaram (1950)" had a major supporting role. The movie was a comedy and became a huge hit. Vijaya also made it in Tamil as "Kalyanam Panni Paar" that same year. It was also a hit. The Tamil version was also directed by Prasad. The Telugu version has 16 songs, albeit of smaller duration. Most of the songs were hits. Some of my favorite songs from this movie include Leela's "Manasa Nenevaro Neeku Telusa" and Ghantasala's "O Manasu Loni Mansa". I am uploading these and rest of the songs in back-to-back two posts. Here is a description of the songs in the first post and the songs themselves ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Oct 25 2010, 08:54 PM Attached image(s) ![]() |

(Raaj) Heer Ranjha (1970)
This romantic tragedy was based on the work of Waris Shah (see the picture attached below) written in 1766. It was a book of verses that was drenched with such a passion and has the insatiable romantic fervor as its main appeal. The story apparently was based on a true account of 16th century lovers and also part of Shah’s own love for a woman. The tragedy has been told many times over and again by several different authors (Ahmed Gujjar, D.D. Arora, and Mukbaz to name a few) but Shah’s work remains an unsurpassed landmark of lyrical beauty and poetic intensity that is a testimonial of his literary achievement. Despite the critics categorizing it as a romantic tragedy or a mythical allegory or as an exercise in conventional morality it stood tall the test of time as a work of affectingly deep pathos of high romance. This fabled story of the star crossed lovers has been a fascinating subject with film makers and cinegoers. It was made into a movie in 1929, 1931, and 1948, all before the partition. Later versions include those made in 1970 and 1992. It was also made in Punjabi in 2009. It was made at least once in Pakistan, in 1970. Some of these films worked and while others only fared average. But this 1970 version of Chetan Anand’s “Heer Ranjha” is unique in the sense that the entire film is done as a verse reflecting the original work of Shah. The film had no dialogues. All the verses and the songs in the film were written by the incomparable Kaifi Azmi. Azmi Saab’s verses replace the contrast between the tones, modulations, rhythms, and gestures of spoken words. Like Shah’s immortal work, this work by Azmi Saab and the experiment by Anandji have distinguished themselves as magnificent professional achievements. I am uploading songs from this film in back-to-back two posts from an original soundtrack album. The second post also contains several specials. Now for a description of the songs in the first post and the songs themselves … This post has been edited by swarapriya: Oct 28 2010, 01:42 PM Attached image(s) ![]() ![]() |
