(Amitabh) Bandhe Hath (1973)

Amitabh was still struggling to get a foothold in the industry. In this film, he was paired with Mumtaz, who was already one of the top actresses in 1973. It turned out to be the only movie for which both these performers worked together.

I was reading recently how Amitabh fondly recalls of an incident while he was working with Mumtaz. Amitabh had a Fiat that he used to drive to work. Mumtaz had a Mercedes. Amitabh used to wonder how a Mercedes will be to drive. On this particular day, Mumtaz left early after finishing her shoot. Amitabh has to stay back to complete his days work. When he was done he couldn't find his car to drive back home. Then he saw Mumtaz's driver approach him and hand over the keys of Merecedes to Amitabh. He told Amitabh that she took his Fiat back home and he can keep the Mercedes overnight. What a beautiful gesture. Simple things like these in our lives make it so wonderful. Mumtaz scores huge points from me for showing such generosity towards her associates. Three cheers to you Mumu, wherever you are.

Here is a beautiful album from RD. It has several nice songs including Kishoreda's hit song, "Dekho Yeh Mere Bandhe Haath", and the standout song of the album, Asha's solo, "O Maanjhi". I will upload these songs in back-to-back two posts.

Here is the first set of songs ...

Concluding Songs from "Bandhe Hath (1973)" ...

In this post, I am including a special version of "O Maanjhi". This has an introduction by both Gulzarji and RD. No, Gulzarji didn't write the lyrics for any of the songs in this film. It was Majrooh Saab. This special version of the song was taken from the album, "Legends: R.D. Burman - The Versatile Composer (CD2)".

Now for the songs ...

CONCLUDING SONGS OF ALBUM

Thanks for the songs of this album, Lalo.

Lalo, I have a suggestion for you. Each one of these threads is based on a theme. For you to gain wider visibility, let me suggest that you upload them separately so that more people can recognize your efforts. I have no problem if you would like to include these albums here. Especially if they pertain to the theme, then I can see the point of your uploads here. Because you're putting all these efforts anyway, why don't you start a new thread and share these albums?

Please take this suggestion in the light it is made.

Cheers,
Swarapriya

Based on my information, the producer O P Ralhan re-made his own film Mujrim (1958) as Bandhe Haath (1973). The original had foot tapping music by rhythm king Nayyar sahab. The music lovers can decide which songs they prefer between these 2 versions. Even on the box office, Mujrim fared much better compared to Bandhe Haath.

Thanks for your informative and organized posts and of course the songs.

Warmest Regards
Parag

I haven't seen Amitabh's movie but I have seen Shammi's. Of both the albums, I think "O Maanjhi" of "Bandhe Haath" is an outstanding song beautifully rendered by Asha.

Cheers,
Swarapriya

Chali Kahan is a very catch tune, and the way Rafisaab makes entry to song is simply incredible.

PLAYBACK SINGING STARTS AND ENDS WITH RAFISAAB. IN TERMS OF QUALITY, CONSISTENCY & VERSATILITY, RAFISAAB IS INFINITE LIGHT YEARS AHEAD OF ALL SINGERS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER HIM.

(Manoj) Phoolon Ki Sej (1964)

Anjali Pictures from Madras made this original Hindi movie. Original because it was not based on any of the movies made earlier in the South. It was based on a Hindi novel. The banner became famous for the 1958 Hindi film, "Suvarna Sundari" which had award winning fabulous music by Aadi Narayana Rao, and starred his wife Anjali Devi in the lead. Anjali, a popular Telugu film actress in 50's and early 60's, appeared in many films. Even though she appeared in a handful of Hindi films, for example "Ladki (1953)", Anjali Devi was not in this movie.

The husband and wife team of Anjali and Rao, who financed this movie, went almost bankrupt when the movie was a dismal failure. Some fine music by Rao could not rescue the drab movie.

I am uploading all songs from this film, all originally uploaded by the Forum members, thank you. Also, please be forewarned that the quality of these songs is iffy.

Now for the songs ...
