Here are the rest of the songs including some music clips from this album. These all are from a DVD. I am also including a full version of the song "Bhaiyya" from a CD. The song appears three separate times in the movie. I am uploading these parts also here.

Now for these songs and music clips...

(Amitabh) Sooryavansham (1999)

Soundaraya (see the attached picture below), who was the heroine of this film was a popular actress from south. Born in Karnataka, she left her MBBS studies to become an actress. She acted in all four South Indian languages. “Sooryavansham” with Amitabh was her only Hindi film. While traveling by plane to campaign for BJP candidates, her plane crashed and she was killed with her brother and others. She was only 31. In less than 12 years in the film industry she was in, she acted in over 90 films. She won several awards during her illustrious career.

This will be the last film of Amitabh we will be covering in this thread. In the past 28 months we have covered every movie Amitabh was associated with in the last century. The number is about 140. Amitabh burst into the film scene in 1969 in K.A. Abbas’s “Saat Hindustani” and rose to the top after initial struggle. He had a grip on the top spot almost through the end of 80’s. But 90’s saw the decline of his popularity as most of his films were box-office failures. One of the most brilliant actors of our time, Amitabh came back roaring in 2000 with Yash Chopra’s “Mohabbatein”, and still continues to draw crowds and garner accolades.

This film, “Sooryavansham”, was made in all four southern languages. It was popular in all of them. But in Hindi the film was a major disappointment and met only a limited success. I am uploading songs from this film in two back-to-back posts. I will also upload songs from the 1998 Telugu version immediately after these songs right in this post.

Here are the songs in the first post…

Concluding Songs from "Sooryavansham (1999)"...

Here are the rest of the songs from this album. The two parts of the song "Dil Mere" by Kumar Sanu are identical except one is at a slightly slower pace. The way Sanu sings it is really difficult to tell how different these really are...

(Dharmendra) Naukar Biwi Ka (1983)

This album clearly demonstrates the versatility of one of our greatest singers, Asha Bhosle. Here she sang several duets in her usual style. Yet in the song "O Mere Sajna" she shows how she can sing an altogether different song with so much melody and emotion. Here is this and other songs from this Bappida's album...

(Jeetendra) Pataal Bhairavi (1985)

This movie was a remake of the hit 1951 Telugu film "Patala Bhairavi". Songs from this album were uploaded earlier by one of our fellow members, Abdur Rehman, in the Telugu Regional section under the title "Legends of Telugu Cinema, NTR and ANR".

The film was based on the Arabian Nights fable, "Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp". It was cleverly adapted into a massive entertainer in Telugu with great performances by the principals and beautiful music by Ghantasala. The movie was also made in Tamil and enjoyed the same unprecedented success.

Buoyed by these successes, in 1952 a dubbed version of the Telugu film was released in Hindi with the name "Patal Bhairavi". I have some of the songs from the 1952 version that I will upload after I am done with the 1985 album.

Bappi Lahiri was presented here with an opportunity to compose music for a costume drama that one thinks would be different from the social musicals he was hitherto composing for. However, Bappida stuck to the same old proven formula for this subject as well and if you didn't know in advance that this was a costume drama; you may be easily lulled into thinking that it is another one of those southern extravaganzas with familiar and similar sounding songs.

I am uploading songs from this album in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set...
