I checked the filmography of Sapan Sengupta-Jagmohan Bakshi put together by BC ji here
http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=21687 It seems that they started their career in the year 1963. I have not found any film's name where Geeta ji would have sung any Hindi film song for them. Best Regards Parag Please visit www.geetadutt.com

Many thanks Exon and Erum ji for the confirmation. I have updated the above post with this song. So now we know close to 20 composers for whom Geeta ji would have sung at least one song but we do not have these songs. So even if we do not have audios of these songs, it is almost certain that Geeta ji did sing for these composers. So our total list of composers is surely more than 150. Composers not covered so far: Ali Hussain Muradabadi (Kaun Pardesi 1947) - Gulshan mein chayi bahaar A R Khan (?) - Kuke ambuva pe koyaliya (Non-film song) Assuming that this composer is not the same person as A R Quereshi (Maestro Allah Rakkha sahab) Bhupen Hazarika- Karo na Phere (Geeta Dutt & Manna Dey) - Film : Dui Bechara - Hindi song in a Bengali film Dattaram Gadekar - Vikram Shashikala/Kalank Shobha - Ho nainaa milaake chhod ke jaane wale Dulal Sen - Black Prince 60s unreleased film - In kaali kaali ankhon mein (with Mohd Rafi) Haribhai Bhojak - Aap Beeti (1948) - more saiyyan bhaaye J Abhyankar and Nageshwar Rao - 1946-circus king-duniya mein sab..preeti kisi ko na chhode-geeta,chorus Mohd Shafi - Film : Mohabbat ki Jeet - Yeh rut hai suhaani karle pyaar Mukund Masurekar - Film : Didi : Bhool jaa oh mere meet Neenu Majumdar - Raj Rattan - Mere dil ki ho gayi chori main kisase karoon fariyaad P Nageshwar rao - 1961-bhagwan balaji-chando,chandaniya si tu (with Mahendra Kapoor) R A Paijankar - Meri Bhabhi (1948) : 4 songs Rajhans - Film : Ek tha Ladka - Tum jaate ho to jaao Ram Prasad - Film : Dolati Naiyya : Zara dil ko laganaa Pt. Amarnath (?) - Roop Rekha (1948) - Dil mar gaya fariyad bankar S N Nandi - Pujya Gandhiji 50s unreleased film - Tore bina raja mohe chain kahan (with Mohd Rafi) S Krishnan & Manohar - Film : Tarzan and Captain Kishore (1964) - Oh mister johny mizaz kaisa hai (with Mahendra Kapoor) Shankar Dasgupta- 1954-sheeshe ki deewar-ae dile beqarar tu aur na beqarar kar-with yashodhara and Shankar Dasgupta Shankar Rao Vyas - 1949-ramvivah-dhanya dhanya he avadhpuri- (Geeta Dutt & Manna Dey) - Their first duet together Vedpaal - Jaa ree meri laadlee (Non-film song) This is an enlightenment to many (including yours truly). All these days I was thinking of around 100 composers... Thanks to HF and all the generous members for all this invaluable information about our beloved singer Geeta ji. Thanks to all for all your efforts in preparing this biggest composer wise compilation of songs of Geeta ji. Best Regards Parag Dear Parag ** I am not sure if these composers have been covered / listed. 01) P. Gopal Rao 02) B. Lakshman 03) Santosh Mukherjee - Anmol Sahara (52) - Geeta Dutt sang 6 songs in the film. 04) Gulshan Sufi 05) Vasant Prabhu 06) Vasant Pawar (solo) and as a team with Ram Wadhavkar 07) Rajhans Kataria 08) G. P. Kapoor 09) Suresh Kumar - Suhag Sindoor (53) - Geeta Dutt sang one duet with Sailesh Mukherjee (he was also the other independent composer of the film) 10) Naresh Bhattacharya 11) Anupam Ghatak 12) Shivram Krishan - Surang 13) Jade Sherman Not sure whether Geeta Dutt sang any songs for the above, except for Santosh Mukherjee and Suresh Kumar. ** Manohar Khanna (father of Usha Khanna) used aliases - K. Manohar & Javed Anwar (as a lyricist). He is credited as a composer under his full name - Manohar Khanna. However, I am not sure whether he used the alias Manohar too or whether Manohar was some other composer. Regards Sukesh This post has been edited by Sukesh Hoogan: Nov 2 2009, 11:15 AM |

Mahesh
Thanks for the confirmation on Sapan - Jagmohan. Sukesh ji I will review the list of composers you provided in details and then post my findings on the same. Many thanks for providing such rare information. So now we are inching closer to a possible figure of 175 composers for whom Geeta ji would have sung in her career. Warmest Regards Parag Please visit www.geetadutt.com

He composed for only one Hindi film - Gharbaar - which did not have any Geeta Dutt song. He composed mostly in Marathi and to the best of my knowledge, Geeta Dutt has sung very few Marathi songs. Shivram Krishan aka Shivram aka Pt Shivram composed for Geeta Dutt in Sati Ansuya, Mahasati Behula and Naya Kadam and has been covered. Surang, on the other hand, had no Geeta Dutt song. Also, do you know which songs in Suhaag Sindoor were composed by Sailesh and which by Suresh Kumar? There are supposed to be 4 Geeta Dutt songs in the film. My Blog - http://urgetofly.blogspirit.com

Are there any other composers we have not covered yet? Thanks Parag There were reports of Geeta Dutt singing a few songs for R. D. Burman in an unreleased, never completed movie, Raaz (60s). Exon Yes, it is quite certain that RDB had composed a few tunes for this Guru Dutt film, most likely to be sung by Geeta Dutt, but there has been no evidence to suggest that the recording of those songs exist. In an interview RDB mentioned that he had recorded two songs, and one the remaining unused tunes was used as Ghar Aaja Ghir Aaye in Chhote Nawab. Also, do you know which songs in Suhaag Sindoor were composed by Sailesh and which by Suresh Kumar? There are supposed to be 4 Geeta Dutt songs in the film. Three of the Geeta songs were composed by Sailesh Mukherjee (It appears Suresh kumar was his deputy for those). The fourth Geeta song is composed by Suresh Kumar. Will start a thread for the movie on SKS. I have only one Sailesh song which i'll upload there. Exon, thanks for digging out this relevant post. Unfortunately Waheed bhai has not conclusively confirmed if a song sung by Geeta ji and composed by R D Burman was ever released on records or not.

Suresh ji, this is so very true. I am sure one thing which this topic has achieved is that it has triggered a great deal of discussion about songs of Geeta ji for a wide range of composers she has sung for. We will need a lot of time and dedication to analyze these posts and bring out a summary out of this.
Thanks Sukesh ji for such a great information. Best Regards Parag Please visit www.geetadutt.com

Great news!
I spoke with Tushar Bhatia ji today and discussed this idea of "100 composers: 100 songs" with him. Though it is difficult, he will be trying to approach contacts at RPG to see if they will be willing to release this compilation. I will be sending the formal proposal to Tushar ji who will review it and then take it forward. Not sure if RPG will accept it or not, but we are doing our bit to take the heritage of Geeta ji's songs to as many music lovers as possible. I am planning to propose the following 116 composers for whom she has sung at least one Hindi film song (assuming that the compilation will be restricted to Hindi film songs only) : A R Qureshi Ali Akbar Khan Anil Biswas Arunkumar Mukherjee Avinash Vyas Aziz khan B N Bali B S Kalla Basant Prakash Bhola Shrestha Bipin Babul Bipin Dutta Bulo C Rani C Arjun C Ramachandra Chick Chocklet (A.X.
