(Madhubala) Jhumroo (1961)

Here is an album that is at once zany, racy, catchy, melodious and many other things. This showcases what Kishoreda can do with his voice. There are 14 songs in this album. Some are so so and some are very very good. Kishore yodels his heart out in several of these songs. Listen to the song "Ge Ge Ge Geli". Only Kishoreda can such a zany song. Here is a song that is really racy, "Aye Baablu Baablu". How about the catchy one, "Main Hoon Jhum Jhum". Then he comes up with an utterly melodious and supremely melancholic and one of my favorites, "Humdum Na Raha". I can go on and on describing these songs...

My CD listed that Kishoreda was the composer of all the songs. Yet surfing through the internet space I found that on some songs he was collaborated with Suhridkar. I am not sure how far this is accurate. May be someone can clarify this. Thank you.

Also, some write ups list lyricist for the title song as Kishoreda himself. However, the CD lists that all the songs were written by Majrooh Saab. Please kindly clarify the situation.

I am uploading all songs from an original soundtrack album and some specials in two back-to-back posts. Here are the songs in the first post...

Concluding Songs from "Jhumroo (1961)"...

Here are the rest of the songs from this fine album. I am also including several specials in this post. One of these is from the "Legends" series in which Ashok Kumar gives a fine introduction to the song "Koi Humdum". I am also including a couple of versions of the same song, one by Amit Kumar and the other by Abhijeet. Details of these are given in the table below.

Here are the songs...

For me, singing sad songs often has a way of healing a situation. It gets the hurt out in the open into the light, out of the darkness.

(Meena) Kohinoor (1960)

"Kohinoor" may not be a gem but is another one of those movies that exploited Dilipji's talents to a maximum. One of our most gifted actors, here he exhibits his acting prowess by going from comedy to romantic hero to a tragedy king very effortlessly. For his portrayal he won the Best Actor Filmfare Award.

There is one "mirror" sequence in this movie between Dilip Saab and Jeevan that is very hilarious. This was a direct lift from the famous Marx Brothers' movie called "Duck Soup" made in 1933. Groucho was in that mirror sequence. Many years later, in 1955, Harpo Marx (brother of Groucho) reenacted the same mirror scene on the Lucille Ball TV show bringing down the house with laughter. By the way, in Amitabh's "Mard (1985)" a similar sequence was shot between Amitabh and Prem Chopra.

“Kohinoor” was a commercially successful movie. The music played a major part in that success. Naushadji displayed his versatility as a music composer with a classical song like “Madhuban Mein” on one hand and a beautiful romantic duet like “Do Sitaaron” on another hand and several other beautiful songs in between.

I am uploading all songs in three back-to-back posts. Songs in the first two posts are from an original soundtrack album. The third post contains several extended versions. These are all from a DVD. I cleaned up the noise on all songs from the DVD version and I think they turned out pretty good. However, still some may find the quality is not in par with the original soundtrack songs.

Now for details of the songs and songs themselves in the first post...

(Meena) Bhabhi Ki Chudiyan (1961)

Pen some unforgettable lyrics. Compose everlasting music creating melodious tunes for them. Have those songs sung so that they stay in your minds forever with their sweeping sweetness scattered all over. When you mix all these ingredients what you get is "Bhabhi Ki Chudiyan". This is one of the finest albums ever created with Lata ji at her best.

Sudhir Phadke (see the attached picture below), the composer for this film, was a great Marathi singer and composer who also created some beautiful music for some Hindi movies. He ruled Marathi film world for over five decades. A fierce nationalist (connected with RSS for most of his life), he won numerous awards in his lifetime. He won the Rashtrapati Award in 1963 for a Marathi film. In 1991 Sangeet Natak Academy recognized him with its award. Three months before he passed away, in April 2002, he was presented with Sahyadri Swara Ratna Puraskar.

The film was made from a hit Marathi film “Vahinchya Bangdaya” made in 1953. Some of the actors from this film also appear in the Hindi version. Parag Sankla, one of our learned members, tells us that Seema Deo, Sulochana, and Durga Khote are in both the films. Incidentally, the Hindi version came eight years after the Marathi version. A Telugu film was made in 1955 based on the Marathi original. It was called “Vadina Gaari Gaajulu” and was released in 1955. I will upload some of the songs from this film in this section after I am done with the Hindi songs. Apparently, the movie was made again in 1995 in Telugu with the same title “Vadina Gaari Gaajulu”. I am not certain of this but I am also including some of the songs from that film as well here.

I am uploading below all eight songs from “Bhabhi Ki Chudiyan”. Most of these songs came from CDs. Quality of these songs is fairly good. However you may find an occasional skip if you pay serious attention. I am uploading these songs in two back-to-back posts. The first post contains all of the songs from the film. The second post contains a couple of extended version songs and a special. Both extended versions are thanks to the courtesy of our fellow member Abhay. Thank you very much Abhay. The special is the song from Lata ji's "In Her Own Voice" CD-2, where she talks about the lyricist Pt. Narendra Sharma. She talks about him in the beginning and also after the song "Jyoti Kalash". In the second part of this upload Lata ji talks about Sharma ji again but this time in reference to another song. It is fascinating to listen to what Lata ji has to say.

Here are the songs in the first post…

Vadina Gaari Gaajulu (1955) - A Telugu Film

I have three songs from this album that I am uploading here. This film and the Hindi film "Bhabhi ki Chudiyan (1961)" were based on the Marathi film "Vahinchya Bangdaya (1953)".

Here are the three songs I have...
