My dear mayawn
Ahmed Rushdi and Mohammad Rafi are two greatest legends of south asia. They always praised each other but never copied any one.Initally Rafi sahab was singing in KL Sehgal's style but soon he established his own famous lovely way of singing. When Rafi sahab met singer Masood Rana,he praised Rushdi's singing and declared him his favourate voice. But it doesnt mean that Rafi is a follower of Rushdi.Same is the case with Rushdi sahab.I respect a lot these great legends and really dnt understand why we are even discussing this useless stance..?Because these big names never declared each other or anyone their imitation.Every one from that era had his own magnetic field and present generation has inspiration from them. |

MYAWAN SAB
I respect ur opinion but i dnt think that you have a complete knowledge of Ahmed Rushdi's profile.Rushdi sab is amongst those few singers of south asia who are knwon as universities of music. He had his own very famous style of singing and expressing melodies. This is very sad that these indians out of their biased nature are claiming him Rafi's imitation which amused me a lot. Once great ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan in an interview said"Ahmed Rushdi is amongst 2 or 3 greatest singers of subcontinent of all times with a unique style " These are the words of that person who is best in the game.Ahmed Rushdi never copied any 1 in his life and one has to be very careful while writing about sum legend.I have a complete research over Ahmed Rushdi and other big names.I exactly know that Rushdi sahab had extraordinary God gifted talents which no other singer of south asia ever possesed. He never got any formal training of classical singing but when it comes for happy song, sad number, high pitch song, ghazal, qawwali and pop,Rushdi sahab remained the last word for music directors.Neither Rafi copied Rushdi nor Rushdi did that.Giving tributes is a separate thing and a beauty between the legends. |

My dear myawan; Ahmed Rushdi had a different style of singing and he never copied any singer including Rafi.If he praised Rafi sahab in an interview, its just a token of appreciation from a legend to another legend.
On the death of Mukesh in 1976, Rafi sahab said"My ideal has left this world".But it doesnt mean that Rafi sahab became a mimic of Mukesh. Likewise when singer Masood Rana met Rafi,Mohammad Rafi said"My favourate voice is Ahmed Rushdi's voice".Again it does not mean that Rafi sahab started following Ahmed Rushdi sahab. When Rafi sahab died,Kishore Kumar gave him a tribute and sang his song. But Kishore never copied Rafi at any stage. In an interview Hemant Kumar said"Rafi is my most favourate singer".Do you think he was an imitation of Rafi??Infact these legends were matchless and everyone had his own unique style of vocals. We got no right to grade them when they had never done it with each other. |

As the thread had outlived its purpose, I am closing it now!
Venkat I have changed many views in life since my childhood, but not my view of Rafi Saab as the God-sent Gandharva who visited this Earth briefly to spread ultimate ecstasy among genuine music-lovers!
