Definitely not Rafi. Ahmed Rushdi was a pale imitation. I'm not a Rafi fan, but have to admit the man knew his stuff backwards! If he had taken this very song and sung it, he would have added so much depth to it.

unrelated to the topic.....n probably inappropriate here.......but if rafi new his stuff backwards...and cuddav added much more depth to the song......why dont u like rafi/r not a rafi fan ?

Hey BTM

Thats not a yes/no question tongue1.gif

I guess the reason I'm not a Rafi fan is because he has a pronounced Punjabi accent. Having lived in Punjab for the first half of my life and seen many punjabi singers on PTV consciously or unconsciously imitate Rafi, I grew a bit weary of the voice/style of singing.

A Shamshad or Zohrabai may also have suggested a punjabi accent in singing urdu/hindi songs. But they were not copied nearly as much. But, that does not detract from his obvious ability as a singer.

Oh, go home, brother! tongue1.gif

You and I are peanuts before the maestro MD, Shankar. Read his views and introspect. I have respect for you, otherwise, as a music-lover!

Attaching Shankar's interview.

I have changed many views in life since my childhood, but not my view of Rafi Saab as the God-sent Gandharva who visited this Earth briefly to spread ultimate ecstasy among genuine music-lovers!

Dear I've lived whole of my life in Punjab and believe me Rafi's accent is very very clear without any deviation towards certain regional language.

Yusuf,

I also love his other formulation, namely, whichever singer is copied/imitated/emulated is not to be liked!!!! rolleyes.gif

venkatji,
thanks for bringing the two songs to the attention of many rafi sahab fans to this singer ahmed rushdi sahab. I have never heard of his name before and in the two songs there is a striking similarity to rafi sahab's 50's/60's voice. have googled/wikipedied about rushdi sahab and listened to one of his songs from mid 70's naseeb apna apna which apparently won awards, in this rushdi sahab sounds very different and no where near rafisahab, so it was the early years there was that similarity, rushdi saab also died at a very young age of 44, April 24, 1938 – April 11, 1983.

But, the point is that I have listened to at least 5 or 6 of Ahmed Rushdi's other songs just now and his performance in those 5 or 6 other songs is quite different and not exactly like Rafi Saab.

ninja.gif I heard the song .. and its NOT Rafi sahab.

He goes off the surr when he sings "koi na tumsa dekha" ... at 2:48

Ahmed Rushdie often went out of sur in his songs

Dear friends this is on record that Ahmed Rushdi never coppied Rafi or any other singer. When Ahmed Rushdi started his career in 1950, Rafi sab himself singing in KL Sehgal's style. I have been reading this argument that Rushdi coppies Rafi, that is not true and i assure you that. I am posting Rushdi's song, plz listen and then decide.Ahmed Rushdi live

Ahmed Rushdi is a great voice of south asia and this is very unfortunate to declair him a mimic of some one.Ahmed Rushdi was famously known as 'Magician of Voice' and 'Master of Stage'. Rafi sab is no doubt a great singer but sir vikant has no right to say something negative about Rushdi. He must listen to Rushdi's songs first then comment upon.I am a big fan of Rafi also but this is an established fact that Ahmed Rushdi has no competition in singing talents other than Rafi. Some people who dont have respect for legends and out of their sheer bias attitude are trying to undermine Rushdi's importance.Once great music director Nisar Bazmi said that Mohammad Rafi and Ahmed Rushdi are amongst those few singers of south asia who have their own unique styles and their voice cannot form 'cones' as they touch heigher notes.Once in an interview Rafi sab praised Ahmed Rushdi because of his uniqueness. Thanks

Ahmed Rushdi sahab had his own famous style of singing. The song you are mentioning from Film Naseeb Apna Apna was released in 1969 and this is a very difficult song to sing.Rushdi sahab never copied Rafi sahab at any stage.Ahmed Rushdi's songs and singing style is being copied by many Indian singers.I have a lot of respect for Mohammad Rafi and Ahmed Rushdi and I expect same out of others. This is a stupid elegation that Rushdi copied Rafi. You listen his first song"Bander road se Kemari"(1954) to his last song "Ban ke Misra ghazal ka"(1983),no similarities will be there between Rafi sahab and Rushdi sahab.Just listen to this famous song Rushdi sahab sang in 1966.Thanks

Ahmed Rushdi had a very unique voice. He never copied Rafi sahab or any other singer.Rushdi sahab is famously known as "Magician of Voice" and "Master of Stage".Many singers from India and Pakistan tried to copy him.So plz cut this crap out.Ahmed Rushdi's career spanned over three decades and he has recorded the highest number of film songs in the history of Pakistani cinema. He had a sweet and melodious voice and any resemblence with any singer is just a coinsidence.Rafi and Rushdi never copied each other.

My sweet myawn sahab; Copying sumone is a different thing and declairing sumbody his favourate is a separate story. On Mukesh death in 1976 Rafi ahab said'' Mera ideal aaj iss dunya ko chor gaya ''.
It was only a complimemt but it does not mean that Rafi was copying Mukesh.Same is the case with Rushdi sahab. He only expressed his feelings. And as far as this 'Bachpan ka fan' is concerned,Rushdi sahab started his career in late 1940s and at that time Rafi himself was struggling. All these names are great and every one had his own style.Like Kishore sang a Rafi song in order to pay him a tribute. It doesnt mean that Kishore is a imitation of Rafi.Lastly kindly produced that interview of Ahmed Rushdi. Thanks
