(Zeenat) Alibaba aur 40 Chor (1980)
There is this fascination of our film producers to collaborate with other countries to make movies in a grand scale. In most of these collaborations, in general, lead players were Indian and most supporting roles were played by the other country folks. Almost all of these movies ended up as big commercial flops. This movie is in that category. Interestingly just two years earlier, in 1978, Dharmendra and Zeenat collaborated with same famous names from Hollywood and England that resulted in "Shalimar". It was a disaster. Its music was the only redeeming feature, thanks to a fine score by R.D. Burman. This time, Zeenat and Dharam are teamed up with Hema for Alibaba. RD again is the music composer. Mid-eastern music was the basis for the songs of the film and the score turns out to be just about avearage. Here are the songs from an original soundtrack album of this film ... (Asha) Pyar Ka Mausam (1969)
Here is a great musical in the tradition of Nasir Hussain-RD-Majrooh. This trio was responsible for many memorable hits from various movies they worked together (an outstanding example of this is "Teesri Manzil (1966)"). This movie is no exception. Every song is an utter delight with "Tum Bin" in all its variations taking the cake. I will present these songs from an original sondtrack album in back-to-back two posts.
