QUOTE(parag_sankla @ Oct 22 2008, 09:32 PM) *

All these years I was doubting my ears for this..but I am glad that you confirmed this.

Sorry for adding my own emphases when quoting from your post, but the play of language in that line was too good to resist! smile1.gif

Talking of doubting one's ears: I have always seen the Shamshad Begum song from 'Bawre Nain' listed as "ichak bichak *ghurr*", but my ears consistently tell me it is "ichak bichak *churr*". Does anyone else hear "ch" instead of "gh"?

I agree completely with your later post that "Bawre Nain" is a marvellous Rajkumari showcase. I love her singing: the one CD compilation of hers that HMV has put out is one of my most-heard CDs!

Warm regards,
Abhay

Abhay,

LOL..

Yes I am 100% sure that it is "ichak bichak churr, dil ud gaya baabu furr" in that song!

And thanks for the comments on Rajkumari ji, one of the least talked about singer of the golden era.

At a convenient time some time later, would you be kind enough to share this compilation of songs of Rajkumari ji from your collection please?

Thanks
Parag

Mahesh Sahab - I cannot thank you enough for the song "Hum Mast Dilon Ko Lekar..." from Sunehre Din 1949... bow.gif

It is hevens to ear to listen all the Great Stalwarts - Shamshad Begum, G M Durrani & Khan Mastana singing all together... Any more info on the singer 'Kalyani' - I am hearing her name for the first time.

And the song itself is so light hearted & 'Natkhat' that I have been listening to it repeatedly after downloading it...

Swarnapriya Ji - Thank You once again for having started this thread in the first place. smile.gif

Dastan (1950)

"Dastan" has some beautiful numbers composed by Naushad Saab. Suraiya, who was the heroine of the movie, sang every song in the movie. She has such beautifully distinctive voice. She had six solos and three duets with Rafi Saab. Indeed, Rafi Saab. He was singing for Raj Kapoor. No Mukesh in this movie singing for Raj. Mukesh didn't become Raj's permanent voice for few more years even though he sang for him oft and on during this time.

Here are the details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

Jaan Pehchaan (1950)

Here is another Nargis-Raj Kapoor starrer for which the music was composed by Khemchand Prakash. Born into a family with rich music tradition Khemchand Prakash became a pioneer in the field of classical music. He had a thorough knowledge and grasp of ghazals, thumris, and Mawar folk songs. Quest for fame and fortune led him to then Calcutta where he was able to find a job as an assistant music director to Timir Baran. Among films he assisted was “Devdas (1935)” with Saigal and Khurshid. Soon he became an independent music director with “Ghazi Salahuddin (1939)”. Naushad ji was his assistant music director for several movies during this time. In an interview Naushad ji stated that Prakash ji was his Guru.

Prakash ji gave Lata ji her first big hit with “Aayega” song of “Mahal (1949)”. He also introduced Kishore da as a playback singer in “Ziddi (1948)”. The very first song Kishore da sang in this movie was for Dev Anand who was the hero of “Ziddi”.

Prakash ji died very young when he was only 42. Soon after the thundering success of “Mahal” he was inundated with offers. But even before he could complete his assignments, he passed away. At the time of his death, he was working on four movies. “Jaan Pehchaan” was one of them. Its music was completed by Manna Dey. B. Shreshtha completed the music for “Muqaddar”. Basant Prakash finished giving music for “Jai Shankar”. Finally for the movie “Shri Ganesh Janma” the music composition was completed, once again, by Manna Dey.

In a professional career that spanned only 11 years, Khemchand Prakash ji composed music for 34 films. Today he is remembered for immortal Saigal’s “Tansen (1943)” and the trendsetting “Mahal”.

Anupama ji has recently reuploaded the songs of “Jaan Pehchaan”. They can be accessed by clicking the following path:

Pyaar (1950)

Here is another Nargis-Raj Kapoor starrer. During these years Nargis acted exclusively with Raj. She rejected several offers including one from Mehboob Khan who gave her the superhit movie "Andaz" only a year back. Several years later Nargis did come back to accept Mehboob's invitation to act in"Mother India" in which she gave a mind blowing performance that is revered even today and is considered to be a landmark in the history of movies.

There are nine songs in this movie. I am uploading eight. The missing song is shown in red italics in the table below. Several songs are by the courtesy of the Forum members. Of the songs I am uploading, two of them are of really terrible quality. These are shown with an asterisk in the table. They probably are from horrendous recordings. Unless you need them badly, my recommendation is not to download them. I am including here only for completeness sake. If anyone of you have decent versions, please upload them. The request also goes for the missing song.

Here is another movie in which Mukesh is not the voice of Raj Kapoor. It is Kishore Kumar! Surprisingly Burman da utilized talents of Kishore da to sing for Raj ji.

Now for the details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

Swarapriya

I checked my collections and all the copies of the song "Do din hansaaya pyaar ne" have that hissing noise. I am sorry I was not of any help here.

IMHO, apart from that hissing noise, one can surely enjoy the sweet song. At least a die hard Geeta fan like me for sure!

Waiting for some generous member to share a better audio file of this song.

Best Regards
Parag
