Aag (1948)

With only a few movies beehind him, young Raj Kapoor decided to go into making his own movies. He launched the production of "Aag" in early 1947. He couldn't secure the finances because distributors weren't sure of his worth. But he was able to borrow enough money to go ahead with his plans. He signed not one or two but three leading ladies to work in his movie. That was quite an accomplishment. Besides acting in it, he co-wrote the story, screenplay, and directed the movie.

The movie was a brooding study in love and was released in 1948. Even though there was anticipation throughout the filmworld about young Raj's maiden venture, it was a commercial failure. However, it has attained a kind of cult status and is now considered to be one of Raj Kapoor's better movies.

The music and the songs of the film were very popular then. Even today, they sound fresh and beautiful. The music was by Ram Ganguli. The song "Dekh Chaand Ki Ore Musafir" was recorded with Meena Kapoor and Shailesh Mukherjee as well as Shamshad Begum and Shailesh Mukherjee. The latter version was used in the movie. I am not sre what exactly is the story here. Also, I am missing one song from this album which is shown in red italics in the table below. If any one of the members has this song, please kindly share with us.

Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

swarpriyaji,
a request for reupload.
thanks in advance,
mahesh

Dil Hi To Hai (1963)

Here is another Nutan-Raj Kapoor starrer. Except for "Aanri" which was a super hit, none of the other movies starring them fared any better. Movies like "Kanhaiya" and "Chhalia" that preceded this didn't do that well. This movie also like the other two was a commercial failure. But like other movies, this movie also was a resounding success musically speaking. There are some beautiful songs with Asha and Manna Dey dominating the proceedings along with Mukesh and Suman Kalyanpur. Manna's "Laaga Chunri Mein Daagh" is a perennial favorite. So is Asha's song "Nigaahen Milaane Ko".

There are altogehther 10 songs in this album. Because of their lengths, I will upload them in two back to back postings. Now for a description of the first five songs and the songs themselves ...

Thanks! I have all of these in my collection but the quality of these in your upload is phenomenal. "Dil Hi To Hai" was a great one for Roshan almost as good as "Barsaat Ki Raat."

Ek Dil Sau Afsane (1963)

Shankar & Jaikishan do it again. As usually is the case of their movies. there are some beautiful songs in this movie. All solos by Mukesh are great. The song by lata, "Door Ke Chandaa", is a really sweet one. Rafi gets to sing a song for Raj in this movie. His duet with Lata "Tum Hi Tum Ho" is a standout of this album. Here is a description of the songs and the songs themselves ...
