Ab Dilli Door Nahin (1957)
In between his very popular movies, Raj Kapoor also made other socially conscious movies in "Boot Polish" and "Ab Dilli Door Nahin". He produced both of them and didn't direct either. He had a brief appearance in "Boot Polish" but he was completely off the screen in "Dilli". The movie was the plight for justice of a little boy who was convinced that his father was wrongfully imprisoned. It tells the story of that boy's journey to Delhi to see the prime minister, Nehru, to seek out the rightful justice. Dattaram, who was assistant to Shankar & Jaikishan, made his debut as a music director with this movie. Incidentally Dattaram along with Shankar and Jaikishan, all assisted the music director Ram Ganguly for Raj's "Aag". Dattaram went on to give music as an independent director to only a handful of films. I am uploading all of the songs from a CD. Rafi Saab's "Chhun Chhun Karti" was one of the chart busters. The song "Yeh Chaman Hamara" appears twice. One of them was sung by Noor Jehan. This makes one to suspect whether this song belongs in this movie or not. Or is it Noor Jehan singing this song? Nevertheless I am uploading this as well. Because of the number of songs, I will upload these in two parts. Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ... Thank you for your marathon effort in coninuing with the filmography of Kapoor brothers Raj and Shammi and alsouploading songs from their movies. The second version of Yeh Chaman Hamara Apna Hai uploaded by you seems to be sung by Asha Bhosle only. Its speed is somewhat faster than the normal song. I am however uploading the same song, possibly a version record, sung by Sabita Bannerji, who cut several version record discs of popular songs in 1950s. Later she got to sing a number of songs on her own as Sabita Bannerji and later as Sabita Choudhry, after marrying Salil Choudhary. I am not sure about the source of this song. It could possibly be one of the HF members. Raj Kapoor made several movies in quick succession with Mala Sinha post-Nargis period. This was the first one. Dattaram composed music. Most of the songs were popular. My favorite is the solo by Mukesh "Aansoo Bhari Hain". Incidentally, Lataji came out with two CDs paying homage to her deceased cosingers. She sang this particular song in praise of Mukesh ji.
