Ashiana (1952)
Here is another Nargis-Raj starrer that has some beautiful music by Madan Mohan ji. Talat is the voice for Raj in this movie also. Lataji sang six solos. Even though this is one of Madan Mohan's early movies (may be his second), one can see that the combination of Lata with him was going to produce some memorable music in the years to come. Here are the details of the songs and the songs themselves ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Nov 22 2008, 12:36 PM Attached image(s) ![]() ![]() |

Swarapriya I checked my collections and all the copies of the song "Do din hansaaya pyaar ne" have that hissing noise. I am sorry I was not of any help here. IMHO, apart from that hissing noise, one can surely enjoy the sweet song. At least a die hard Geeta fan like me for sure! Waiting for some generous member to share a better audio file of this song. Best Regards Parag Do Din Hansaya Pyar Ne - Geeta - Pyar (1950) Hope this sounds better. Courtesy HF -----
Aadmi Theek Se Dekh Paata Naheen, Aur Parde Pe Manzar Badal Jaata Hai, Ek Baar Chaley Jaate Hain Jo Din-Raat, Suboh-Shaam, Wo Phir Naheen Aate, Wo Phir Naheen Aate, Zindagi Ke Safar Mein Guzar Jaate Hain Jo Makaam, Wo Phir Naheen Aate, Wo Phir Naheen Aate... ----- |

Bewafa (1952)
Ustad Alla Rakha Qureshi, fondly known as Alla Rakha through out the music world, ran away from home when he was 12 to learn playing tabla. As a kid he was fascinated by its beat and rhythm and some day wanted to be good at it. He worked with some of the great masters of his time. A strict disciplinarian, his regimen for practice and dedication to his work became legendary. Early in his career he composed music for several Hindi and Punjabi films. But it was his association with Pandit Ravi Shankar that brought him worldwide recognition and the celebrity status. For scores of years he travelled with Shankar all over the world giving concerts. He was the chief tabla player to Shankar’s magic with the sitar. He was not only a noted accompanist but was also a magical soloist. Rakha’s percussive wizardry was a popular item in these concerts. He was a prolific composer, a master of improvisation, an electrifying showman, a flawless soloist, and a task master teacher. He elevated the stature of tabla in the eyes of the music world to that of a chief musical instrument. Ustad Alla Rakha trained countless people in tabla through a school he founded in Bombay, the Institute of Music. His son, Ustad Zakir Hussain, is now recognized as one of the world renowned tabla players was one of his beneficiaries of teaching. I had the good fortune of attending several concerts of Ravi Shankar where I watched the display of tabla wizardry by the Ustad. It is an experience that stays with you. Until one experiences it one has no idea what a tabla can do as a medium of music. I also attended several father and son concerts that of Alla Rakha with his son Zakir Hussain. Hussain is a chip of the old block. He is a magician with his fingers and already has a carved a name for himself. When those fingers start dancing on the percussion instruments it leaves you drenched with experience of a lifetime that is mesmerizingly spellbound. By the way Hussain also toured with Shankar after Ustad passed away. Qureshiji was recognized with several honors through out his career both in India as well as abroad. He was honored with Padma Shri, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar, and the Indo-American Achievement Award. This is another movie starring Nargis and Raj Kapoor. Incidentally, Talat Mahmood was the voice of Raj in this movie also. This is the third movie released in 1952 that had Talat lending his voice to Raj (other two being “Anhonee” and “Ashiana”). Now for the details of the songs and the songs themselves … This post has been edited by swarapriya: Nov 26 2008, 10:54 PM Attached image(s) ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Swarapriya,
Thanks a lot for the Bewafa album. I was missing a couple of songs. In the song, 'aaja o mere dilrubaa' the voice sounds a bit different from usual Geeta Dutt voice. I request Parag and other senior members to confirm the singer please. For your benefit, I am including one more audio of this song taken from the film video. Thanks. Parag is right.
Its definitely not Geeta ji. I downloaded and listened to the song. My first thought was it maybe Utpala sen (who also sang Aaj sahi inkaar in Zalzala in 52 which also some people think is sung by Geeta ji). The singer's voices in both songs sound similar but I can't be sure. Can some of the stalwarts listen and confirm? Of course somebody having the geet kosh maybe able to give the right answer too. Thanks SP for uploading the album. I am totally out of sync with your thread since some days. once i get time i'll come back to it. Keep up the good job. Best Regards
