Gopi is a simple-minded and honest individual who lives in a small town in India with his grandmother. When he finds out that he is being asked to sow opium in the fields instead of crops, he asks the other laborers to rally with him and force their employer to change his tactics, which results in his losing his job. He decides to go to Bombay city and try to re-establish his life. Upon arrival, he loses all his belongings, and ends up on the steps of a temple, being befriended by a young child who thinks Gopi is his dad. Gopi takes in the child and both try to find to make ends meet. Then one day Gopi is approached by an attractive young woman named Jyoti, who calls him "Johny" and asks him to perform some dance and music numbers in exchange of food, to which he agrees. Gopi does not know that by doing this he has opened up a Pandora's box for himself, and will soon be on the run, not only from the police, the Central Bureau of Investigation, but also from gangsters owing allegiance to the mighty international don named Supremo - who believes that Gopi has a stolen item worth millions. |

Producer: Shakti Samanta * Date of Birth: 14 January, 1925 * Place of Birth: Burdwan, West Bengal, British India. [now India] Biography Shakti Samanta is a director. He graduated in 1944 from Calcutta University. He joined the film industry in 1948 as an assistant director and worked with Gyan Mukherjee, Satish Nigam and Phani Mazumdar. Samanta Directed first feature film in 1954 and started his own production company, Shakti Films, in 1957. In all, Samanta has directed 43 feature films: including 37 Hindi, and 6 Bengali films. His best known films are: Howrah Bridge, China Town, Kashmir Ki Kali, An Evening in Paris, Aradhana, Kati Patang, Amar Prem, Anuraag, Amanush, Barsaat Ki Ek Raat and Mehbooba. Samanta is credited for starting the trend of making double version films in Hindi and Bengali with Amanush in 1974. Samanta also made the first co-produced film between India and Bangladesh in 1984. Shakti managed to ride 2 "star phases" and attempted a 3rd. He was among the directors who worked with Shammi Kapoor in the late 50's up to mid 60's when he was a star, then he hitched on early to Rajesh Khanna and gave a number of hits with him, and though he tried to get on to the Amitabh star phase, his movies with Amitabh Bachchan were not hits despite "The Great Gambler" having all the ingredients . Samanta received Filmfare awards for "Best film" for Aradhana, Anuraag and Amanush. He has also received several Lifetime Achievement awards and several other awards from Zee and other Indian organizations. Some of his films have been shown at international festivals in Berlin, Tashkent, Moscow, Cairo and Beirut. Samanta was President of the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association for 5 years, Chairman of the Central Board Of Film Certification for 7 years and was Chairman of the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata for 2 years. Director: Ashim Samanta (son of Shakti Samanta) received his Bachelors degree in Commerce from Bombay University in 1976. He started his career in the Film industry in India in 1976 working as an assistant director to Mr. Brij Sadanah on -Bombay 405 Miles. In 1980 he directed his first film - Amne Samne. He has directed several films since then. He also directed a 52-episode sitcom -Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, for Sony TV, which won him Best Director Award for Comedy Serial. In 2005 he started working on - Antariksh - Ek Amar Katha, the first sci-fi TV Series for Star Plus that was launched in October 2006.
