This album surprised me. It has several singers whose talents were seldom utilized by RD and for that matter by any other music director. Gautam Roy appears in four out of five songs. Who is Gautam Roy? I never heard of him before this movie or since then. A search on him revealed that he only sang in this movie. This sounds almost improbable. I also found that his main forte in movies is as a production manager and not as a singer. May be that is the reason I haven't heard about his songs apart from this album. I'm really curious how and why RD decided to have an unknown (not for RD, of course) and definitely unproven entity like Gautam sing in this movie. Roy didn't disappoint and made a believer of RD's faith in him.

Sagarika Mukherjee, now Sagarika daCosta, is a pop singer. She appears in one of the songs. She is an elder sister of the playback singer Shaan. She has few pop albums to her credit but now has settled down as a restaurant chain owner.

It seems like Gurpreet Kaur has sang only for RD in Hindi movies. She sang for him in "Masoom" in 1982, then again in "Jhoota Sach" in 1984, and lastly in this movie. She may have sang for other music directors but I couldn't get much information about her either.

Another interesting thing about this movie is that it was produced by late Geeta Dutt & Guru Dutt's sons Arun Dutt (see the picture) and Tarun Dutt. Arun also edited the movie and wrote its story. The production of this movie was delayed for considerable amount of time because during the making of it Tarun committed suicide.

Finally, one last interesting piece of information. When Guru was making "Pyaasa", RD was assisting his father, SD. Impressed, Guru promised to give RD his first break as a music director. Guru did started making a movie with RD as the music director but after canning few reels he decided to shelve the project altogether. RD already recorded a couple of songs for that movie. Later, actor Mahmood gave RD his first break as the music director for his maiden home production, "Chhote Nawab". RD apparently was able to use those tracks for Mahmood's movie. Thus, things have gone a full circle. RD here again, giving music to a Guru Dutt film produced and directed by Guru's sons that is different but quite good.

Somehow I see in my music library that there are 12 songs in this movie which seems very unlikely. Digging through I find that at least six songs are from this movie. I am uploading them in the first post. The other six songs I am uploading in the second post even though I am very doubtful that these belong to this movie. May be someone can unravel the mystery. Thanks.
