Having been brought up on a diet of 'Teesri Manzil, 'Junglee','Jaanwar' &'Evening in Paris', listening to these songs is like Growing up on 'Amrut' and switching over to borewell water Madhu Well, Madhu, remember "Junglee"" was made in 1960. Shammi was 25 years older during this period. No more "yahoos" from him. The music baton has changed from the likes of Shankar & Jaikishan to the new stars on the rise. Yet R.D. Burman gave music to ths movie. He also was 20+ years older. The efferevescence that was overflowing with bursting energy and the spark that ran through all the songs of "Teesri Manzil" are missing from some of these RD movies also. Times have changed. Things have changed. Listening habits have changed. It seems like everything is so different. But I get the point in what you are trying to say. Cheers. Somehow, I managed without change. Of the thousands of songs in my collection, less than 1% belong to the post 1975 era(after my graduation). The last hindi movie I have seen in the theatres is 'Namak Halal'. I listen to HFM for at least 90 minutes a day (driving to, and back from office). Most of the songs are by singers who are no more, composed by MD's who are no more and written by lyricists who are no more. But the songs themselves live forever.

Exactly my way !
![]() It has been a very long time since i went to see any new hindi film..i prefer watching them...those which are highly recommended at home..There have been some good ones...Dorr..Lagaan etc. But only in the story department.. music wise..the golden times are before 75...or 70 for that matter. just my personal opinion. Earlier music is used to convey those feelings which cannot be conveyed by words, with meaning so subtle . Now, subtlety has no place at all. After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

Sohni Mahiwal (1984)
The tragic love story of Sohni and Mahiwal has become a folklore. Countless stories have been told about their doomed romance. Several movies were made on their fabled love story. This version contains some nice songs tuned by Anu Malik. I will upload them in two back to back posts. Per EarthMiusic I am missing one song shown in red italics in the table below. If you have it, please kindly share. In 1958, the incomparable Naushadji scored music for "Sohni Mahiwal". It has some great songs. I will upload those songs here in this thread following this. Now for the first set of songs ... Attached image(s) ![]() |

Sohni Mahiwal (1958)
Here is a superb album by the incompable one and only Naushad Saheb. This has some great music and heartwarming songs. Because of the number of songs, I am uploading these in two back-to-back posts. I am attaching a photo of the tomb where Sohni and Mahiwal were enshrined. The tomb is located in a town called Shahdapur in Pakistan. Now for the first set of songs from this great album ... Baadal (1985)
I am uploading four songs from this album. Per EarthMusic there is at least one more song, a solo version of "Toote Na Dil Ka Vaada". Details of this missing song are shown in red italics in the table below. If anyone of you have it, please share with us. Also, I am not sure who the singer is for the song "Laila Meri Laila". If you know who it is, please kindly share. Now for the four songs from this album... Attached image(s) ![]() |

Balidaan (1985)
Here is a typical Bappi Lahiri album with some jolly good numbers such as both the duets of Asha and Kishore. There is also a nice solo by Janaki that almost sounds like Asha. Here are the songs ... Attached image(s) ![]() |
