Latt Saheb (1967)
Here is another movie that has Shankar-Jaikishan and Shammi Kapoor combination. As is the case with these movies, songs are a highilight. This movie was no exception. There are a couple of duets by Asha and Rafi that are hummable. But Rafi's solo "Savere Waali Gaadi" is infectiously delicious. I am uploading longer version of this solo as well as the duet "Tan Mein Agni". These two are by the courtesy of the Forum members. Here is a description of all the songs and the first installment of the songs ... Attached image(s) ![]() ![]() |

Thanks SP for Latt Saheb and An Evening In Paris. Thanks Jay for extended versions.
I remember watching the latter when I was a kid and enjoying it. Latt saheb's song Savere waali gaadi also I remember listening to on the radio. Thanks for reminding of all that. Best Regards

Teesri Manzil (1966) Here is one of my favorite movies. Everything comes together in this movie like a well organized and well executed musical concert. The story, songs, music, performances, they all add up to make this a thoroughly enjoyable entertainer. Nasir Hussain, who produced the film, was busily getting ready with "Baharon Ke Sapne" and approached Vijay Anand to direct this movie. Originally Dev Anand was to star in it. But Dev was enjoying his new found success and recognition from making "Guide" and was not immediately available. Instead the role went to Shammi. Hussain was looking for someone to compose the music and Shammi recommended his old friends Shankar and Jaikishan. Majrooh Sultanpuri, who wrote lyrics for every Nasir Hussain movie and a good friend of Hussain, recommended R.D. Burman. R.D. was new to the game and had only "Chhote Nawab" behind him. Hussain went along with the idea. Vijay Anand knew R.D. well (being son as well assistant of S.D. Burman), and liked the idea. But Shammi wouldn't budge. R.D. composed couple of songs to convince Shammi that he will be able to do the justice and when Shammi heard them he had no problem. R.D. became a regular with Nasir Hussain for many films. The movie music was a standout and had some breakaway music and sounds that were never heard on an Indian screen before. It was a clever juxtaposition of eastern and western music that was at once appealing to ears as well as hearts. Asha Bhosle and Mohd. Rafi sang all the songs in this movie. This will be the last Nasir Hussain movie Rafi Saab does all the songs. He did return with a bang in Hussain's "Hum Kisis Se Kum Nahin (1977)" and sang the award winning "Kya Hua Tera Vaada". The picturization of the songs from this movie is still talked about. Vijay Anand uses some unusual camera angles to picturize the songs, like a dance from an eye or a guitar hole. Incidentally Salim, who would later become part of the famous Salim-Javed writing team, played a bit role in the movie. He plays drums to Helen's song and the dance number "Oh Haseena Zulfonwaali". Salim later married Helen. During the filming of this movie Shammi lost his actress wife Geeta Bali. Vijay Anand helped Shammi overcome the grief. Swarapriya Many thanks for sharing so much of lesser known facts about this film. You are truly an ocean of music and the related knowledge. A true spirit of HF. Many thanks for all your efforts. This is indeed one of those films where everything seems to be perfect (except the annoying Asha Parekh, if I can give my personal opinion..) ![]() Cheers Parag Please visit www.geetadutt.com

Brahmachari (1968)
This movie won several major Filmfare awards. It won for best picture, best actor for Shammi Kapoor, best music for Shankar & Jaikishan, their third, best lyrics for Shailendra (his second) for the song "Main Gaaoon", best singer for Mohd. Rafi for the song "Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein", and best story for Sachin Bhowmick. There are eight songs on the CD, all sung by Mohd. Rafi. Seven of them are solos and one is a duet. The movie has one of my alltime favorite songs of Rafi Saab "Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein". What a great song. It was sung witch such gay abandon that its sweetness affects you infectiously. Here are the details of the songs and the songs themselves (first installment) ... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Jan 21 2009, 05:33 PM Attached image(s) ![]() ![]() |
