Kashmir Ki Kali (1964)

Here is an album with some absolutely beautiful songs composed by OP. Bengali actress Sharmila Tagore was introduced to Hindi movies with this one. For beautiful Sharmila, the talent is in her blood. Born in Hyderabad, India, Sharmila is the great grand daughter of Rabindranath Tagore. Satyajit Ray gave her the first break in his movie "Apur Sansar", the second part of his famous Apu trilogy. Sharmila was only 14 years old at that time. She went onto act in five of Ray's movies.

This movie with the beautiful backdrop of Kashmir and fresh faced Sharmila plus mind boggling songs performed with fervor and gusto by both Asha and Rafi, was a dynamite of entertainment. Every song was a major hit, without exception. However, the outstanding song of the album, one of my alltime favorite duets of Asha and Rafi happens to be "Isharon Isharon Mein". This song was performed by both singers with so much zest that it is a heart grabber.

All songs except a couple are from CD. The "Humming" by Asha ji and the extended version of "Meri Jaan Balle Balle" are by the courtesy of the Forum members.

Now for the details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

Rajkumar (1964)

Here is a delighful musical from Shankar & Jaikishan that paired with Shammi for the first time beautiful Sadhna. Every song from this album is a sheer delight. The song "Naach Re Man Batkamma" has the Telugu word "Batkamma" in it. Batkamma is a festival that comes just before Dasshera and is mainly celebrated by women of Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh. Shankar, one of the music directors of this movie, grew up in Hyderabad and knew Telugu language very well. He was well versed with the local culture and customs and decided to use the word here in this song. Couple of other movies of Shankar & Jaikishan ("Gumnaam" and "Shatranj") also used this very same word effectively in songs. But those came much later than this movie.

Rafi Saab is in his element in his rendering of the songs in this movie. One my favorites is the song "Is Rang Badalti Duniya Mein". I probably listened to this song hundreds and hundreds of times and I never get tired of it. Another winner is the duet "Dilruba Dil Pe Tu". All these songs came from a CD.

Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

SP..thanks a lot for these beautiful albums. The lines which come to my mind is " Chalo ek baar phir se ajnabhi banjaye hum dono"..I still remember the struggle we did to acquire these songs in our town in eighties..the euphoria to get those records and then get them on cassettes. How wonderful it would be ..to find these gems for someone new ! thanks..thanks.. bow.gif

It is infact a common practice to keep some words while tuning a song and MDs used to use the words from their mother tongue ..read some where that Raj Kapoor insisted on keeping the original words " Ramayya vastavayya" in Shri 420. very interesting discussion... smile.gif

After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

There seem to be too many movies on Bhagat Singh having the same songs. I am uploading two songs "Sarfaroshi ki tamanna(4.07 min &3.27 min)" and one "MERAA RANG DE BASANTI CHOLAA (3.21 minutes)". I hope that at lest two of them are from this movie. All are at 128 KBPS
