Taxi Driver (1973)

Vishal Anand, the hero of this film, is related to Dev Anand. He appeared in only handful of films. He also produced and directed films under the name of Bhisham Kohli which is his real name. One of his hit films was the 1976 “Chalte Chalte” that he produced as well as acted in. He gave Bappi Lahiri break in this film in which number of songs including the title song were chart busters.

In this film he adapted all the mannerisms of Dev Anand but the movie did not work. In spite of the routine and predictable melodrama, there is unnecessary comedy with Tun Tun, Asit Sen, and Mohan Choti taking too much of film’s time thus slowing any tempo there is.

OP did his usual stuff here. Part of the song “Pyaar” appeared towards the end for the second time in the movie. I am uploading it as part 2. Also, the beginning of “Kha Kar”, appeared for the second time at the end of the movie. There is no music preceding or following it. So I am not uploading it.

OP’s website lists a second version of the song “Jinhen” that was sung by Asha and Usha Khanna. However the song was not in the DVD and I could not find it anywhere else. Could this be an error? Or if the song does exist, please kindly share it with rest of us. Thank you…

The Killers (1969)

Leave it to OP. Whether the movie is A grade or whether it is a B grade, he always gave his best. This movie is a prime example of this. Each and every song in this film is very good with Asha participating in all of them. Here are the songs…

(Kishore) Chham Chhama Chham (1952)

I am re-uploading these songs on request...

This was O.P. Nayyar’s second film as a fulltime music director. Earlier he had composed a couple of instrumentals for “Kaneez” in 1949. But its music directors were Hansraj Behl and Ghulam Haider. His first movie as a fulltime music director was “Aasman”. It was also released in 1952 but before this film.

Unfortunately the quality of these songs is really bad. Therefore I am uploading them at a lower bit rate. A note on the song, “Mila Naina Mila”. This is actually a duet where Kishore’s portion is all dialogues. These dialogues in the song are very noisy and unintelligible. If you remove them, only Asha’s song remains that is really nice by itself. I am uploading this song with and without dialogues.

It appears like that I may be missing a couple more songs. These are shown in red italics in the table below. If anyone of you have these, please share with rest of us. Thanks.

Raagini (1958)

Rakhan directed this film from his own story and screenplay for the co-producer and actor Ashok Kumar. Rakhan directed only another movie, “Kalpana” in 1960, once again for Ashok Kumar.

Dadamoni stayed mostly in the background and offered his brother Kishoreda and Padmini take the center stage of the film. Padmini’s dances and Kishoreda’s and other songs of the film form the nucleus of the film.

Vinod Mehra made his debut as a child actor in this film playing young Kishore Kumar.

O.P. Nayyar was in exceptionally top form here. This is one of his superior efforts. Almost all songs from the film became super hits. OP even had a few songs composed in classical style. On the top of it, Rafi Saab had a great song in “Mann Mora” lip synching for Kishoreda, another one composed in classical vein.
