Mangu (1954)
This is an early movie of OP. Sheikh Mukhtar, the gaint of a man, produced and acted in this movie. He made several movies only to face disaster with his last movie "Noor Jehan". In a severe financial crunch even before the movie was released, he migrated to Pakistan. Even there he couldn't receive the recognition when he was alive. After his death, "Noor Jehan" was released in Pakistan and was a huge success. OP provided music for three of Mukhtar's movies, this one being the first one. The other two were "Mr. Lambu"" and "Do Ustad". One of the distinguishing features of this movie is that it introduced Suman Kalyanpur as a singer. She was only 17 at the time and caught the eye of Talat Mahmood during a concert. He introduced her to HMV, his music recording company. I am not certian who the music director for Sumanji's debut song in "Mangu" was. If it is OP, that will be starnge because his regular singers during that time were Asha, Geeta, and Shamshad. Somewhere I read that the music for this song alone was provided by Mohd. Shafi. May be some of the expert members of the Forum who are knowledgable about this can throw some light. I am uploading six songs from this movie and missing two songs. Unfortunately, one of the missing song is the song by Suman. May be someone can share these missing songs. I am also including a song "Peenewaale Meri Aankhon Se" which was recently uploaded as a video by YOB. I am not certain whether this song belongs here. There is another movie by the name called "Mangu Dada". May be it is from that movie. Most of these songs came from various sources; CD collections and from the contribution of the Forum members. Because of the heterogeneous nature of sources, the quality of these songs is not uniform. Some songs, especially the song "Bol Pardesiya", have some hissing noise. I tried my best to clean the noise and that is what I am uploading here. Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ...
