Hi FP,

Its amazing that these rare songs from the 40's and 50's at low bitrates (and at times with not-so-good audio quality) enthral us even after more than 50-60 years since they were recorded.

Truly

Mortal man..immortal melodies

Our dear Geeta ji passed away at a very young age but has left a treasure of her melodious songs for us. We are fortunate that we all are able to listen to her voice and re-live the magic of her singing. Some of her songs give us so much nostalgic feelings. Take an example of this song from Naag Mani

Aaj nahin toh kal
bikharenge yeh badal
oh raat ke bhule hue musafir
subah hui ghar chal re...

Best Regards
Parag

Ohh, very true! And these songs are such that any quality works for me, I would not want to miss these songs for anything.
A friend and I both recently discovered 'aaoge naa saajan aaoge naa' ( Jaan pahechaan, KP) and were both mesmerised by the way she frames the questions at the end of each sentence... he wrote to me 'plaintive questions and Geeta Dutt, nobody does them better than her' and I must say that I agreed. smile1.gif

The honesty and eagerness in her voice is truly unparallel when she asks this question "Aaoge na saajan aaoge na, kismat ko meri jagaaoge na...aaaoge na?"

In fact all the songs in this particular film are hidden treasures. I am so glad and grateful to the generous members who shared these songs in excellent audio quality.

One wishes that HMV/RPG could come up with CD compilations of such lesser heard gems of Geeta ji, how wonderful it will be!

One can listen to the song "Raat mohe meetha meetha sapna aaya re" (Film - Tamasha (1952)). I once played it for more than an hour in repeat play mode and was in tears. Come to think of it..How tragic the life became for this great singer in a few years from the time she recorded this melody?

A lovely chhed-chhad (between Nanand and Bhabhi) song courtsey HF

Nanadiya maare
Geeta Dutt
Gunsundari (1948)
Bulo C Rani
Lyrics : ?
128 KBPS
02.15 min
mp3

It occurred to me that this is the cousin of the Gujrati song "Aaj maari nanadine mainu maaryu". The tune is slightly different but it must be a bilingual made in Hindi and Gujarati. So the composer of the Hindi version is also Avinash Vyas and not Bulo C Rani as my previous post says.

The lyrics are credited to Indra Chandra.

A rare case of using a different tune for the same song in two different languages.
