I really do not know how to respond to these expressions. I have heard this great Rafi Saheb's song when I was in College but have not seen the movie. Therefore, I do not know the context in which it was sung.

I got apprehensive because I recollected another Talat Mahmood song about shukriya ...

Shukriya Ae Pyar tera Shukriya
Dil ko kitna Khoobsurat Gham diya, Shukriya

Zindagi to Dard mein doobe tarane De diye

Etc Etc......

I only hope the song indicated by you do not convey similar emotions. Because, I realize that I have been only a receiver of several gems from this forum. My contribution to the GD thread has been NIL (as I really do not have a very great collection though I used to listen to these songs on Radio when I was in school) .

Therefore, my dear friend, sau baar shukriya to you for sharing these beautiful GD songs.

Talat is one of my most favorite singers as well. The song you mentioned is one of his top 10 songs, in fact most of his songs for the composer Anilda are divine. I feel sorry for the fact that due to many reasons (Guru Dutt not liking Anilda and Anilda promoting Meena Kapoor ji etc.), Geeta ji did not get much to sing for Anilda. Most (if not all) his best compositions went to Lata ji, and one must say she did full justice to those songs. In fact, Anilda + Lata ji + Talat ji is one of the best combo IMHO.



Sorry for drifting away from the topic. No, the song of Rafi sahab is only thanking his friends (from the bottom of one's heart). My only intent for being on HF (and for being associated with www.geetadutt.com) is to let more and more music lovers know about Geeta ji, her songs, her career and her greatness.

I am glad that I have been on HF for more than 2 years and with so many generous members around, I have collected over 650-700 songs of Geeta ji. I have many times thanked all for this affection showered on me and will continue to do so.

I too feel that this is a song by Geeta Dutt, chorus (no Asha's voice). My reasoning is further strengthened by not finding this song under Geeta-Asha duets list.
