I came across this version of the song a few days ago, and was floored by Shalini, the up loader, for sharing SUCH a rare gem with us, besides the song itself. I just LOVE the song!  The felicity with which Lata has negotiated SUCH a complex composition is incredible! This version, however, differs significantly from the LP version- it's sung differently, is slightly longer etc. If anyone has this version, s/he would do us a great, GREAT favor by uploading it here, and if possible (without meaning disrespect or denigration) in better quality than the video. Shafi, deserves praise for composing such a beautiful song, no doubt about that. However, I would like to argue, not necessarily contentiously, that the song borrows significantly from the traditional bandish in raag Bhairavi- more than I would deem to be acceptable for him to qualify as merely inspired by it. Lata, OTOH, in three odd minutes, conveys the essence of the raag as if she was born with it! Regards, Saksham. |
