Hi every one
Dara Singh famous wrestler who was known as Rustam E Hind is no more. He was a prominent name among (not that many) Sikh film artistes. He was a major presence in Punjabi movie industry and in action films.
I had seen only a few of his movies. While his Hindi/Urdu diction may have been less than perfect he was an actor with presence because of his imposing personality.
On a related topic, there are not that many Sikh artistes in movie industry.Off hand some names come to mind. Actors: Geeta Bali ( Harkirtan Kaur), K.N.Singh, Kuldip Kaur,Kalpana Kartik,Priya Rajvansh, Dharmender,Sunny Deol, Booby Deol, Akshay Kumar,Daljit Kaur,Nitu Singh,Neeru Bajwa,Poonam Dhillon,Jimmy Shergill, Chandrachur Singh, and Kiron Kher. One family of actors intrigues me: Raj Kapoor, Shammai Kapoor, and Shashi Kapoor have (original) first names that could be considered Sikh names. Amitabh Bachan's mother was Sikh.
Music Directors: S Mohinder, Sardul Kwatra,Uttam Singh.
Writers (Story/ Screenplay/ Dialogues):Amrita Pritam,Nanak Singh,Khushwant Singh, Rajinder Singh Bedi,Gulzar.
Art Director:Sant Singh
Lyricists: Inderjeet Hasanpuri , M.S Sehrai, Amrita Pritam,Gulzar ( Sampooran Singh Kalra).

Thanks for the link.It's really sad to see some of the recent film stars pass away. Pretty much all of Rajesh Khanna's movies were released after I had left India but many student associations in America used to show Indian movies in their college auditoriums in 60's and 70's and even later. I often saw many movies from India at IIT Chicago and then at other commercial sites in the Chicago metropolitan area.
One of his movies I remember Aradhna (?) with Sharmila Tagore had a rather bold story line. I think I Have seen about a dozen of his films. I can only imagine how popular he was in India as he was known as the first superstar of Bollywood. Harjinder
