This tune was used by Vinod in an earlier urdu movie
Khamosh Nigahen 1946 for 'rut sajan milan ki aayi hai'.
Surinder Kaur's solo 'chan kithe guzari' was recorded
in Lahore around 1945. She redid it after partition.
It is a folk tune.

Thanks for the information. I don't have any songs from 'Khamosh Nigahen' but I do have Surinder Kaur version of abve song. In 1980's Surinder Kaur visisted Houston Texas and I attended her show there. I remember her singing this song in that show. Her voice was still in decent form at that time. Some years later she again visited North America and in Chicago area I again heard her sing this and many other of her songs. By that time she had lost most of her magic touch in her voice but still it was nice to attend a show by the legendary Punjabi singer.Harjinder

I have it from 78 rpm record. Here is a clip. The voice is of Lata Mangeshkar.
I am not sure whether it was also recorded in the voice of Premlata who
also sang a couple of songs in this movie.



There was a somewhat similar song sung by MD Ghulam Haider:

Assaan likh likh paaiyaan chitthiyaan dard diyaan.
