Its been on my mind for a while now, will have to write a little utility to read mp3 file info and dump that into Excel file. MP3 file header can be read with Microsoft File Object. Ravi is resident C# expert here may be he will have some thing handy that we all can use, else will do the needful - Just another gummy bear fan

Oh that way, I do not have iTunes. I have heard that it does some auto tagging thing, something I am scared of. I normally tag files with all the info I can find. This is being done with assumption that one day I will have that utility ready and coded to read file info and then program will do the rest. With vista out, file information is getting broader. I saw mp3 file properties with vista, it has lot more info now. I been using my work PC lately, I do not have all the tools on my new Vista - Just another gummy bear fan

There is a utility called MPEG Collection.
It catalogues your collection and also exports the whole collection in Excel Format, with the fields you want. In case anybody wants, its on http://mac.sourgeforge.net (its freeware) -----

No it’s not question of liking, it’s just that I been trying to avoid another software on my PC and with Vista I am not too sure what should be installed. As far writing software is concerned, with copy and past if PC memory is not large enough that can crash program (Excel). Writing code can avoid that and data can be dumped into local Access database also as an option. Eeeeeks.. sorry… I guess it’s my profession talking - Just another gummy bear fan
