The settings ofcourse, depending upon the software he uses. I found I can change the speed and with that the duration changes.

Like you point out now, Salilbhai's record player is probably playing it at a slower pace and that would involve the increase in the track duration.

So ideally speaking, both Eskayesbhai's file and Salilbhai's file will be of same duration, if the speed is equal.

What I am trying to highlight is that speed and duration are inversely related.

HumTum, you are right that speed and duration are inversely related....if the song runs slower on the player, it will take longer to complete and hence recording also will be longer....

Sunny, i am afraid i would not agree with your view point that "you can increase or decrease speed without change in duration to some extent"....if the song runs slower then it must take longer to complete...the sampling rate (of say 128 kbps) and the polling (sampling) frequency (say 44.1 hz) are independent of the speed at which the record player is running...hence the mp3 recording will also show longer duration and larger file size for the same sampling rate, if the player is running slower...yes, you can tweak the pitch of the song (to sound similar to let's say a slower version) in which case it will take same time to complete...but otherwise it is not possible...else this will indeed defy the basic foundation of classical mechanics wink.gif ....i shall be glad to know any other logic that you have on this...

SKS you are absolutely right when you say the slower the song, the longer the duration and vice versa.

I use Wavelab which has a setting to change the pitch / tempo without any inc / decr in the length.
I have tried this and it does work to some extent. If a song is recorded slower than normal, then the pitch of the singer suffers (becomes slow) and again faster in vice versa. I have corrected the pitch a few times without changing the duration of the file, to an extent though.
Correct me if I am wrong, in the process I will get to learn something new. smile.gif

Yes Sunny, if you tweak the pitch of the song, you will get the same duration of the song though it would sound little different...

Getting a wee bit technical here wink.gif, so bear with me....

(1) When the player runs slower (or faster), the duration will be more (or less)....simple Classical Mechanics Theory....
Velocity = S (i.e. distance) {divided by} T (i.e. time)

Here, since the distance (the length of entire song) is same (i.e. constant here), more the speed less the time, and vice versa....

(2) When you tweak the pitch (i.e. frequency), it becomes a Wave Theory issue...

Velocity = Nu (i.e. frequency) {multiplied by} Lamda (i.e. wave length)

Here, since velocity of sound remains same before tweaking and after tweaking, as you increase the pitch, the wave length comes down, and vice versa....

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Just having some fun on account of Fundamental Physics, i hope you do not mind...

On a serious note, my suggestion will be that you do not make any pitch adjustments even if you feel its not ok....the pitch, as you hear, does not sound ok because the recording was done by a slower/faster player (i.e. the Case (1) issue resulting in expansion/compression of wave length and hence the pitch)....so the solution for that lies in changing the duration of the song, and not in tweaking the pitch....when you tweak the pitch, you actually damage the originality of the song forever...by extending/compressing the duration, you can hope to get to the original version but by tweaking the pitch you will never get the original...it is like using the Case (2) solution for Case (1) problem...getting little complex, is it?

Yes I have noticed that too, it’s some kind of slowdown in belt, reverse of what we normally see in tape dubbing. Ever tried dubbing on dual deck. Voices coming out of that can change the entire song.

Salil Bhai

I have heard the songs of Ulta Seedha uploaded by you. Salil Bhai I have these songs in my cassette. I don't know the voice of the songs lag something. I don't know may be slow or little heavy. I am the only one experiencing or others feel this way or not.

Kindly hear the converted songs and compare with the original from Vinyl. The songs of this movie was really good. If there is difference, kindly upload again with corrected voice. I will be really thankful.

Regards

Please tell me about the quality of ripping of the Ulta Seedha songs - is the quality is completely ok or not? Is the pitch & tempo of these songs are right or not? Friends please share your views and post them in this thread.

Awaiting eagerly for your early comments.

Thanks.
