Yes, a bit complicated....but wonder why you do that...infact when you you do line-recording, the digital signals of DVD actually get converted to analog signals at the line-out of the headphone....so there will be some signal (and hence quality) loss.... but you said you aren't using DVD-rom, so you wont be able to rip it directly from the DVD disc in any case.... If one uses software to rip it, then the digital signals remain digital all through....anyways even audio ripping of DVD using software is a bit complicated..it is a three-stage process unlike VCDs, which is straightforward.... eskayes
