I don't believe this, the motor control circuitry in your VCR/VCD/DVD or in the original recorder's machine probably needs fine adjustments .

I fully agree with you Azad...infact that's the reason i raked up this topic....because i feel the the song, as was picturised, was the right tempo at which everything starting from the original studio recording would have been done...the picturisation of any song in hindi movie (or for that matter any indian language movie) is the life of the song...the song is conceptualised, written, composed and recorded completely keeping the picturisation in mind.....now if the tempo is faster, then either video is running faster or the turntable is running slower...(assuming the video tempo is higher, else it will be the other way around)...

In my own opinion, in handful of songs ripped from LP/EP or cassette and uploaded here on the forum, i felt the tempo had been slower...and that, i always thought was because the turntable/tape recorder speed lost speed in time on use...like every mechanical gadget, these also need maintenance and re-adjustment from time to time.....

In short, if video is running fine at the right speed and your video player is in fact panning out 28 frames in a second (this is something which can be measured on computer with various refined softwares), then the song speed/tempo as on video has to be the correct one....this is what i feel....and i would not go by the speed of LP/RP, because the original recording on the disc itself might have had slight speed issue unless the disc cutting equipment is calliberated to say, at least two decimal places, at the start of each recording...a difference of 0.01 sec (second decimal place error) in speed of disc cutting equipment could result in about 2.5 secs of longer time for a 5 mins song...and if the error is 0.09 sec, then as much of a difference as 20 sec.....

Well, i am not saying that algorithm will affect the tempo....it affects the quality overall....

As for the cassette quality being lower than 96kbps, i think we cant say anything like that....cassette, if recorded properly and if casstte quality is good, then would always have better quality than MP3...cassette songs and MP3 songs are two different things altogether....let me try explaining like this...

Cassette recording is recording of analog signals wherein the magnetic media on the tape get aligned in perfect waveform as per the amplitude and pitch of the vocal signal...so, let us say a one second of sound signal will be stored as a magnetic pattern which when converted to sound will give the original waveform of the sound signal...(do you recall transverse and logitudinal waves and compression and rarefaction from school days? ....)

On the other hand, in MP3 recording, there is approximation....MP3 being a digital form, stores the sound signals in digital form (in binary codes)....now a 128 kbps and 44 Hz ripping means that while encoding the digital signal, the algorithm took 44 samples for a one second sound and stored the information in 128 kilobits (or 16 kilobytes)...so you see, while the analog waveform for a one second sound will have infinite points (which when joined form the wave), MP3 ripper just took 44 samples in one second and joined these 44 points to form an approximate wave for a one second sound, so to say...so more the sample frequency, better and closer the synthesied waveform will be to the original....

Again, every 1 bit denotes one binary record, so 128 kilobits represent 128000 binary records in which this information of the signal (i.e its amplitude and pitch, etc) has been stored...higher the biterate, more finer information about every one second of sound will be stored in the binary form....

Complex, is it?...well, i am not a software guy, so may be some software person can explain it better and in simpler way....but the short point is that cassette stores the infinite point (potentially) waveform, where as MP3 stores an approximate waveform....it is generally believed/found that 128 kbps/44Hz digitised information is very close to CD quality (but remember CD recording itself is digital recording and hence not as perfect as analog recording as in cassette or disc, though the .cda format of CDs have siginificantly higher sampling than MP3)....a good tape recording will be always better than CD or MP3....

But then why do they claim that CD to .mp3 recording is better than CD to cassette recording? If cassette can store infinite wave samples, then it must be good only (depending on the quality of cassette and speed of recording of course). Hope u know the cassettes which are recorded on high speed are much much high sound quality than a normal speed recordings...

Hey and is that why many MDs use prefer the TAPE (I mean tape in spools with high quality recorders) Recording use to first get done and then LP/ EPs are printed? Long time ago, I had an opportunity to see the song recoridng of Anuradha Paudwal and some other male singer. It was a Marathi song. I still remember the recordist was handling a HUGE size of spool recorder.... The spool was also soooo wide. The thickness of the spool was also substantially big. And the way he use to struggle for each and every re-take of the songs, was really terrific. When singer use to make mistake, they had to re-record the whole song all over again. And it was not recorded on -1 sound track, it was a live old style recording. All musicians were sitting and playing the music again and again.

So is that why all of them (MDs) still love analog recordings? I remember a guy who is MD saying, 'Omkar jo Maza Analog recording mein hai, that fun is not there in Digital recordings'. I was surprised when he said that. Do u have some more info to explain why he cud have said that?

Even though this thread essentially deals with Jodi, i thought i will put up my this post on List of Unreleased Songs here instead of starting another thread...a bit of digression that way even as this thread caters more to information than uploads....

Now, when we talk of unreleased songs, it is important to define what exactly qualifies as unreleased....in the past we have had different opinions on this....so i start with defining what i have considered as unreleased...

Movie incomplete and/or not released:

1. Song not released on music albums/discs (promotional music discs precede release of movies)-----considered Unreleased
2. Song released on music discs-----considered Unreleased

Movie released and song recorded:

3. Song part of the movie and the music discs----considered Released (Obvious)

In short, i have considered a song unreleased if its picturisation was not released as a part of the movie, else the song is released....

Well friends, yes we are talking about Panchamda and Guru....discussion on a jodi i had held back for long time...but then,,,what better jodi than this when picking up the threads all over again...shortage of time on my part had almost pushed this thread to extinction....

No discussion of famous music jodies of Indian music (not to talk only of Guru and his jodies) can ever be complete without dwelling on this duo of RD Burman and Kishore Kumar...with Guru singing more than one fifth of his total number of hindi songs (564 out of 2654) under RDB....and RDB, on his part, making use of Guru's voice in more than one third of the hindi songs composed by him (564 out of around 1680)...I will leave the rest of the comments on this fabulous pair by you all....

now again there was a song - Gumsum kyon hai sanam which was initially planned for Kasme vade and was even released in the movies discs but was never included in the said movie. so ramesh behl had a choice between 2 songs - phoolon ki zubaan & gumsum kyon hai sanam. since the later suited the script of Bhala manus , it was kept and phoolon ki.. was kept aside to be used for a later movie. WHICH NEVER HAPPENED
